Jisu: The Thank You for Smoking example isn't Springtime for Hitler; in the book, it's the talk show setting him up to fail, and in the movie, it's the governor. The point of the scene was to see how he could get out of being put against the kid.
There was that episode of South park where Stan's baby hockey team must win or littlestcancerpatient will lose hope and succumb to cancer. The Hockey team ends up against a fully grown professional team who massacre them. The littlestcancerpatient ends the show by saying something like "all hope lost".beeeeeep.
I deleted the following comment from the Babylon 5 section on Confessions and Lamentations because it conflates two different species: "*** And to top it all off the aliens were basically "untouchables" (or something like that) - Dr. Franklin was one of the few people in the entire galaxy who thought they were worth saving and more then one background character is heard joking about the aliens' impending doom." The Markab were the race that went extinct from the plague, while the Pak'ma'ra were the "untouchable" race. Although a few Pak'ma'ra contracted the plague, the Pak'ma'ra as a whole were saved by the cure. -fernandan
