From YKTTW

Robert: Removed the chicken pox example. It's something that used to be fairly common practice, nor was it that excessive. Chicken pox can kill adults, so a party to spread the disease was reasonably sensible in the days before better treatments were available.

Morgan Wick: Though I doubt it was that common when South Park did it.

Seth: Well you would be surprised. Chicken pox parties have been common practice for a while. Like a few decades. So they out date South Park a little. What made the South Park example was that it was a super (That is Fatal) strain of the illness.

Morgan Wick: Wait, now I'm confused. Did it used to be common practice, or has it been common practice (the use of the present perfect implying that it still is)?

Seth: They used to be, are now, and will probably remain common practice. Every parent i know has mentioned getting their child's infected early so they don't need to deal with it as an adult. It happened to me, and my 6 brothers and sisters (Big family) my cousins and friends also had similar things happen. So at least they are common practice here, way before southpark.

Hasher Britarse Different thread, would the real-life case of the mother who committed a murder to get her daughter onto the cheerleading squad count as a Knight Templar Parent or had she crossed over into Evil Matriarch?

Celebrenithil: I don't know who came up with the Vaarsuvius quote on the page (with the very fitting trope links) but I just happened to make an entry on Roaring Rampageof Revenge and came to link Knight Templar Parent! Great(?) minds think alike! XD *high-five!*
