Daibhid C: Hmm. While, yes, the Sword in the Stone and the Sword from the Lake are different swords (except, as with all myths that have multiple versions, when they aren't) "Caliburn" and "Excalibur" are believed to be varients on the same name. Geoffrey of Monmouth seems to have coined "Caliburn" but didn't mention either origin. The legend of the Sword in the Stone comes from a 12th century version by Robert de Boron, and he calls it "Escaliboure". The legend of the Lady in the Lake comes from the 13th century Suite de Merlin. Malory, combining these two legends in Le Morte D'Arthur ends up calling both swords Excalibur, and that's where the confudion starts...
