From You Know That Thing Where:

I'm thinking of a scenario where it is necessary for a character (most likely a protagonist, but not always) to be killed for whatever reason the plot gives: a couple of examples I can think of are Old Yeller (rabies), and the T-800 at the end of the second Terminator movie. If it works, my suggestion of a name is "I Cannot Self-Terminate" (for obvious reasons).

Airbud: Solomon Grundy was put down in a similar fashion in Justice League Unlimited.

Ununnilium: There's a couple of about-to-be-taken-over-by-The Virus examples hovering around the edges of my brain. I like I Cannot Self-Terminate.

Seth Shawn of the dead had this with his mother and subverted with his father in law (He was day dreaming about having to do it). I can think of game examples in Jade Empire when The Virus was going to take someone and he begged to be killed. Wasn't there a similar situation in one of the Alien movies as well? Names, im not to fond of I Canot Self Terminate doesn't really cover the whole trope. Mercy Kill, It Had To Happen, They Had To Die, Kill Me. to name a few. I like Mercy Kill

Cassius335: Wouldn't Old Yeller be a Mercy Kill? Or was Old Yeller somehow capable of English?

MrRandom: I know there are a few examples of this in Alien and Aliens (the movies of course!), but I'm not perfectly clear on the specifics. (forgive the newbieness of this discussion comment!)
