Daibhid C: Does Moist von Lipwig from Discworld qualify? He works alone, but he's very smooth (at least when he's conning people. When he's thrown into government service at the deep end, not so much).
Danel: I can't get past the way Danny from Hustle is seen as an example other than this. He's a Short Con player who tends to mess up constantly, usually only winning at the last minute through luck or inspiration in a pinch. I'm sure that he's an example of this.
