Working Title: Good Is Old Fashioned: From YKTTW

Goldfritha: This trope is about what the characters say. No matter whether the book as a whole agrees or disagrees with them. therefore I cut this.

  • Right? Not at all. There is no moral dimension in being a neophobe or neophile - both the heroes and the villains fall squarely into the neophile-category. Neophiles do many mistakes, but they are also responsible of all the advances that the humanity has made. Most of the time Hagbard considers the exponential increase of the neophile numbers in the society a good thing - he even took part in creating the miracle-drug AUM that at least temporarily turns neophobes into neophiles, and had his followers covertly mix it in food or drink in the gatherings of the most conservative organizations in the United States, with the knowledge that it could either destroy them, or make them more formidable.

Lightice: I can't remember a single moment where any character would say that neophobe is inheritly better than neophile. All social development is caused by the neophiles. The utopia of Atlantis was neophobic, but that's what destroyed them in the end, since they refused to change as was necessary for the coming of the Dragon Star. If someone has a different interpretation, let them provide a quote.
