Working Title: Good is addictive: From YKTTW

What about when someone assumes that whatever makes them feel like a good person/makes other people like them must be good, even though really being good can often mean doing things that are unpleasant or unpopular? I've met plenty of people like that in real life.
Dark Sasami: Does Jean Valjean count?
Mr Death: Took out the "genocide" comment from the Sword Of Truth entry, instead of trying to explain in the main page that it wasn't genocide and Richard said explicitly, "Don't kill who you don't have to." The series has plenty of legitimate faults, you don't have to twist things around to criticize it.
Mike Rosoft: Took out the following thread (take it to the forums):
  • This is something that religious people don't seem to understand when they imply that someone without religion is necessarily a bad person.
    • Depending on which religion is meant by the above, of course. In many cases, religionists of most stripes agree that being atheist/agnostic doesn't necessarily mean you're bad, but it does mean you're *unsaved*. The problem, of course, is that *unsaved* ~ "going to Hell" which most people then equate with "result for being bad", ... SoYeah.
    • I think it is illogical to be good, when one doesn't believe in the existence of something transzentendal. Why should someone be good when there is no good or evil?
    • That's based on the faulty notion that good and evil are purely mystical concepts, rather than philosophical concepts. Philosophy needn't be religious or spiritual at all.

Chance is that this comment was added in response to my addition of the Confucius quote; ironically, I am an atheist and I added it because it specifically rejected a reward in a life to come as a reason for doing good.
