Working Title: Please Stop or I Might Shoot: From YKTTW

Sci Vo: Would this go under Double Standard?

Robert Bingham: Well, it happens to Non Action Guys and The Chick with a good amount of regularity, but given that it happens to women most often...

Ophicius: "It's usually a woman in these situations" I agree, but it's not exactly shown well with the examples we have here.

J Chance: It doesn't deserve splitting (I think), but I've seen two variants. One is as mentioned, someone being unwilling/unable to pull the trigger. The other is being too afraid, angry, or generally upset to _aim_ steadily, whether or not they fire.

Nornagest: Cut —

** Interesting how they never argue that you could take the criminal's gun away from them since it's so easy.
** In fact, according to what I've heard, the last question on the concealed-carry exam is, "If you had to, could you kill a person?" If the answer is no, you fail the exam. You don't get to carry a gun if you aren't willing and able to use it.
** And people tend to know how much they can do, how hard it is to take lives? Don't *mess* with me, of course the people who have guns think they can kill. Asking is not a solution.

I suppose the natter will probably just pop right back up, but the original comment seems fairly neutral to me, so I'm leaving it.

Phartman: Modified it again to remove that paternalistic "whether or not they actually can" bullshit, which was pretty much what the Unfortunate Implications thing was all about in the first place. Still, I do love that first footnote that got cut.
