Morgan Wick: I know this is kind of late, but: Tom And Jerry? Huh?

BT The P: It's weird, but I've seen them; shorts that flash back to other shorts. One of them, as I recall, had the Framing Device of Tom's judgement at the gates of heaven.

Ununnilium: Yeah. @@ Another one I saw had Tom's shoulder devil reminding him of embarassing things Jerry had done to him.

Morgan Wick: Actually, you remind me that Bugs Bunny did this a couple of times as well.

Ununnilium: Oh, yeah - in fact, a couple of theatrical movies were basically the old shorts with new framing material. "Daffy Duck's Quackbusters" was, I think, the first of these.

And "Down and Out with Donald Duck". If this were a complete list, it'd cover about half the TV/film series ever made, so I wonder if the most notable examples should be singled out? Also, should there be a clearer explanation of the difference between clip show and recap? —Document N

Sniffnoy: There Is No Such Thing As Notability.

Ketsuban: No mention of Neon Genesis Evangelion?

"The Outer Limits revival had quite a number of clip shows. Of course, being Sci Fi, and seeing as these clips usually involved aliens, time travel or a potential end of the world, the framing devices were slightly above average in uniqueness; but they were still clip shows." Oh yes, I remember that one episode that arranged clips from previous episodes into one plot, outright repurposing the footage (featuring off-screen narration of what was happening which is not what's happened in the episodes the footage is from), as the storylines of the episodes used were not compatible to each other... I felt cheated about that, the unique feature of Outer Limits is that every episode stands for itself, there is no continuity to be preserved so their is more creative freedom (e.g. episodes could end with The End of the World as We Know It without problems). But that episode tried to establish some continuity between different episodes that appears preposterous if you have seen the episodes in questions and know "what really happened".
