From YKTTW Working Title: Ascended Glitch

Chad M removed:

  • This may have been done simply as a matter of necessity, since abusing the glitch would cause the battle to end too early— thus skipping the important cutscene that is supposed to happen halfway through, and perhaps even skipping the part where Terra is added to your party. (I've never actually tried it, though.)

I have tried it, and none of this happens. All that happens is the boss goes through the death animation and the cutscnes proceed as normal. Now, it may have been removed to make it a less obvious instance of Gameplay and Story Segregation, but it didn't break anything. Also, I think this entire item's presence is questionable given that it's more of a balance oversight than a bug.

Majutsukai: Thanks for that correction. I wasn't about to go to all the trouble to test it myself, given that I have no save file that's even NEAR that spot in the game at this point in time.

I wasn't sure whether or not to include it when it was posted in YKTTW either, but "balance oversights" of this magnitude are what we call "exploits". I would consider an exploit that's THAT bad to be on par with a bug, but that's just me. If anyone feels it should be removed, I won't contest it.

  • Rocket Jumping, now a staple of the FPS genre, originated as a glitch.
because I'm not actually sure that's true. I'm going to take a wild guess here that nobody used a rocket launcher in an FPS earlier than Doom, and the limited rocketjumping you can use there is completely intentional, given that it's the only (intended) way to reach the secret level in Episode 3. I don't know about freelook rocket jumping, but given that everybody looked to Doom at the time freelook rocket jumping would come about, I don't know.

Majutsukai: Looks like someone just added it back. Does anybody actually know? Because I was under the impression that it started as a glitch, and I'm apparently not the only one. I didn't want to remove it without bringing it up here again, at any rate.
