Uh, the last example there is Did Not Do The Research on the part of the writers. Many Italians could compete in the Greek Olympics (if they were citizens of a Greek city as well as or instead of Rome), which continued well into the Christian era before a moralising emperor banned them due to everyone competing naked, which was not the Christian way. In fact, most Greek stuff carried on existing well into the Roman period (often in the same city), so seeing the two together isn't exactly unreasonable.
