Kilyle: Having just read the first Discworld book for the first time, and following it up with the graphic novel adaptation, I am astounded at the degree to which the graphic novel destroys the story. It's not that it fails to get the details there, or in the right order - I expect any medium shift to leave stuff out, that's kind of a given - but it just totally and utterly fails on matters of pacing. There is a serious lack of transitions that pervades the entire book, there's no sense of Rincewind taking the time to think things through (which he does frequently!), the dramatic moments are cut short (which makes them more active at times but far less dramatic).

All in all, the graphic novel fails to give the reader (me!) that sinking feeling of horror in the pit of my stomach that is the closest approximation I may ever come to feeling like Rincewind feels on a daily basis. Which is really, really sad. I feel the graphic novel could have done better by expanding out at least another dozen pages and taking the time to actually using pacing and transitions to approximate the mood of the source material. And... I'm wondering if I have an objective view of the problems with that adaptation, and also wondering if someone could put Adaptation Decay or something out on the main page with a good explanation of it.

Madd-the-Sane: I propose making a seperate page for the live-action adaptation, mainly because it has so many differences from the book. It could probably be put in The Colour of Magic.
