Have a question about how the TVTropes wiki works? No one knows this community better than the people in it, so ask away! Ask the Tropers is the page you come to when you have a question burning in your brain and the support pages didn't help.
It's not for everything, though. For a list of all the resources for your questions, click here. You can also go to this Directory thread

openInconsistency in page titles for a video game series. Videogame
Cross posting with the games' Discussion Page and forum thread but posting it here since no one pays attention to those pages.
Basically, the Super Robot Wars pages are inconsistent on whether or not they use the "expanded" titles for their games or not. For example, we have a page for Super Robot Wars Advance, even though Super Robot Wars A is what other sites use and it's what the art on our page uses. This is admittedly an extreme case since the Updated Re-release was on the PSP and it was very explicitly A and not Advance there, but it's equally true for Super Robot Wars Judgment which is usually referred to as Super Robot Wars J. We don't even have it as a redirect. The same is true for a bunch of other games in the series.
And then we have Super Robot Wars V, but no Super Robot Wars Voyage.
Given that the expanded titles aren't really part of the game or packaging or anything as far as I can tell (I'd say it's All There in the Manual but the games I own where this applies do not have manuals) I'd like to move all the pages to their shortened versions and turned the expanded versions into redirects.

openCharacters page for Warcraft NPC species? Videogame
Wondering if it'd be reasonable to create a Characters page for NPC species in the Warcraft franchise. We of course already have pages for the playable factions, but the franchise has a number of species introduced at every expansion with their own themes, story beats and quirks. It would inevitably be a rather big page (probably big enough to be split in some way; something to think about if we decide to do it), but we honestly have similarly large pages for NPC's in other fantasy franchises (see the NPC pages for Dungeons and Dragons or Pathfinder, for example), so I don't think extent alone should be seen as a reason NOT do to it.
Should we do it, we'd also have to think about maybe reworking some already-existing pages; the page for Pandaria, for instance, alredy brings some entries on NPC races introduced in the Mists of Pandaria expansion. Those entries should maybe be moved.
Alternatively, we could create individual pages for characters introduced in each expansion, listing significant NPC's and having entries for the species there instead. "Big" characters (i.e. cosmic entities) could be kept separate, as they already are, but we add entries for every new species on their corresponding expansion page.
Edited by ZeroCCOopenIs this really obvious? Videogame
Potential edit warring.
I deleted this entry because it felt like a presumption on the tropers part, and they've recently added it back saying it's obvious. Can someone else weigh in?
Edited by Avenger09resolved What does POTN mean? Videogame
I've seen this acronym used in several video game-related pages, and it never links to anything nor does it have any accompanying explanation. What does POTN mean/stand for?
openDuel Links huge folder question Videogame
Somewhere along the line Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Links got two huge folders detailing every playable character and their signature card, putting strain on an already pretty big page. Should it stay or should they go, do you think?
(Disney Dreamlight Valley and Disney Speedstorm have similar folders for villagers/playable characters and signature songs too even though they have a Character page. Since this is kind of a similar situation I'm curious about those too.)
resolved Is this walkthrough mode? Videogame
On The Legend of Heroes: Trails into Reverie, I removed a Do Well, But Not Perfect entry since it read like Walkthrough Mode. When I sent a notif to the troper, they argued that it was valid. I tried to say it still read as walkthrough and I can't rewrite it without making it such. Do I'm asking if the entry is walkthrough mode.
- Do Well, But Not Perfect: The final battle against Ishmelga, aka Zoa Gilstein. If you target his precise weak point, The AI will always dodge and counterattack. The key to winning the battle is to just hit him in the "wrong" position, which won't stagger him but will still hurt him.
openIs it safe to recreate Fanon/PuyoPuyo? Videogame
Regarding https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Fanon/PuyoPuyo, it was cut for good reason since I didn't really touch it then. Right now I have two examples for fanon regarding characters, so is it okay if i re-open it as long as I have at least TWO examples or something?
if yes, thank you so much since i really love puyo
openAuthor's Saving Throw - Correct use? Videogame
- Author's Saving Throw: Among the most infamous That One Levels in Splatoon 2's Octo Expansion are the ones where Agent 8 must roll an 8-ball across an obstacle course to a goal. Dropping the ball into a pit means failing the test and losing a life — and you will drop the ball, thanks to the finicky physics and tight paths you have to roll them across. In Side Order, ball-rolling stages return. The first time you enter one, Pearl groans "Not again!" in dismay... only for Acht to tell her to cool it, because these balls can't fall off the stage.
openEiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes Restoration Videogame
The original page was (understandably, as it was three years ago) cut due to it being unreleased at the time - but now the game is less than 24 hours from release (and in fact is already in the hands of Kickstarter backers and has been beaten in full by a handful of them).
Could we restore the page so tropers can begin properly editing?
openTrope Examples Folders: When to use the "Other" folder? (for genres) Videogame
Hi, I noticed a whole ton of tropes listed under any given media are often not crosswicked to the trope page as examples, so I've been meaning to do that whenever I can.
This might be pedantic but when should I use the "Other Games" folder vs just making a new genre folder to put the example in?
For example Absurdly High Level Cap has many examples in its "Other Games" folder. Some of these games could probably be moved to their own genre folders now. But there's also some folders which only have single examples- games could have gone to "Other Games" instead (I imagine it would be pointless to change that now unless there's too many folders one day).
So what's the best course of action when adding a new entry and there's no fitting genre folder (yet). Put it in "other"? Make a new folder unless there's too many folders already? Or does it not even matter?
Thanks.
resolved Indentation edit-warring Videogame
On YMMV.The Legend Of Zelda I, Tailikku had added two entries, one of which was improperly indented and also began with word cruft ("Speaking of"). I fixed both issues and sent them a word cruft notifier... then they edited the example to reinstate the lone third-bullet asterisks for the second entry (they cited "fixing indentation [and] formatting" in the edit reason, but what they're doing is repeating an editing issue).
I'm writing this query to ask for permission to revert that improper bullet sorting once again.
Edited by MyFinalEditsresolved Is this proper? Videogame
I added something in the awesome moments in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, someone else modified it, then another person completely deleted the modification saying it wasn't "awesome". Err I get that the modification (which wasn't added by me btw) makes it sound less awesome then it actually is but.....was there any consensus in the Awesome cleanup forums before they did that? They explained their reasons but I find them doing that to be nitpicking.

openEdit war on BOTW/TOTK GameBreaker page Videogame
On August 13th, 2023, some time after ATT trimmed the subpage, this entry was added to Breath of the Wild/Tears of the Kingdom's Gamebreaker page, which was eventually changed by troper MJ Trooper to this:
- The air bike is a simple build of two fans pointed downward at a 45 degree angle attached to a steering stick. It's quick, easy to control, can be used infinitely unlike Wings and Balloons, and once you have autobuild, you can construct an air bike anywhere for only 9 pieces of Zonaite. Given how one of the game's main challenges revolves around navigating the environment, the air bike utterly trivializes this. No location is out of reach with this vehicle.
On September 2023, I removed it along with a couple other entries for being a case of Square Peg Round Trope, but it was added back by MJ Trooper a few days later with no edit reason.
Months later, after troper pointillist unilaterally made a large change to the page, I took it to the cleanup thread and got approval to revert the changes and sent the appropriate notifier. I also removed a couple other entries, including the air bike entry (forgetting that I did it before since it was months ago, my bad), with the edit reason of the entries "either exaggerating basic mechanics or otherwise fail to explain how they break the game to the point of being divisive."
A few days later, MJ Trooper added it back wholesale again without an edit reason.
Edited by Super_Weegeeresolved Is the mention of cisgender necessary? Videogame
On Trivia.Unicorn Overlord, troper thecouchwitch added a Cross-Cast Role entry (which I moved to Cross-Dressing Voices as the former trope is about live action roles) where they wrote this:
- Crossdressing Voices:
- The agender Skyler Davenport plays the cisgender woman Scarlett.
- Kdin Jenzen, a transgender woman, plays the cisgender male Lhinalagos.
While it is true that cis is the mostly likely identity these character identify as, it still kinda strikes me as unnecessary. However, I want to ask here to see if it is ok to remove it.
openWho has the most experience with Joke Characters? Videogame
Earlier today, I created the Analysis.Joke Character page, where I tried to explain the different ways these characters are made (such as being underpowered, having unbalanced splats, or having hindering gimmicks).
I initially wanted to also add one example for each variety to better explain the situations: for example, I wanted to put Magma Rager for the "Only One Good Stat" category, Farfetch'd (specifically the Pokémon Yellow incarnation) in "Wrong Person At The Wrong Place", and one of the secret characters from Gourmet Fighters for "Literally Unplayable".
But I couldn't think of examples (that I knew of) that would fit the "Bad Perfomances" and "Built This Way" categories.
Is there a place in this site where I can ask for suggestions?

I understand that the game is an RTS game but I do think the linking is a bit reductive. However, in the interest of avoiding an edit war, I want to ask here what to do before I make any edits.
