What Have You Done To Solange? is a 1972 giallo film directed by Massimo Dallamano and based on the work of Edgar Wallace.
Enrico Rosseni (Fabio Testi) is a philandering professor at a Catholic girls' school in London. While he is fooling around with beautiful student Elizabeth in a boat, she witnesses a grisly murder. Enrico initially dismisses her claims as an attempt at avoiding him, but when the body count starts to pile up he soon finds himself the prime suspect.
A very underrated example of the giallo genre, the film is also known for its fabulous music score by Ennio Morricone.
This film provides examples of:
- Big Bad: Professor Bascombe is the killer.
- Decoy Protagonist: You would think Elizabeth is the Final Girl.
- Drop Dead Gorgeous: Elizabeth is drowned while bathing naked in a tub. Her nude body is carried out of the tub by police.
- Everyone Is Bi: Turns out all the victims, along with Solange, enjoyed having regular sex with older boys and each other.
- Evil Plan: Professor Bascombe seeks to kill everybody responsible for his daughter's madness after making them confess.
- Fanservice: Frequent nudity, particularly shower scenes.
- Giallo: An example of the genre, with its mix of sex, murder and mystery.
- Good Girls Avoid Abortion: Defied in case of poor Solange
- Gory Discretion Shot: The movie is not as gory as some other Giallo films out there.
- Groin Attack: M.O. of the killer who drives a knife inside a woman's nether region . A rare example of groin attack on females.
- Jerk with a Heart of Gold:: Enrico, who is pretty antagonistic towards pretty much everybody. His Ice Queen wife, Herta, also qualifies. They both become much better by the end of the movie.
- Male Gaze: A goodly amount of this, starting with a closeup of Elizabeth's legs as she hops on her bike while wearing a short skirt.
- Phallic Weapon: The killer drives a knife into his victims’ vaginas.
- The Reveal: All the victims except Hilda and Elizabeth held orgies. Solange happened to enter one of these and got pregnant. She then underwent abortion forced upon by other girls which was performed by Ruth Holden due to which she suffered from immense psychological trauma rendering her mute and catatonic. Prof. Bascombe, her father found out and decided to execute his Roaring Rampage of Revenge.
- Teacher/Student Romance: Enrico is in one of these with Elizabeth, and it's implied there have been others.
