** Chip Franco in "Traveled" was a bully to Johnathan back in high school but it's not hard to feel sorry for him since his life went downhill after since them because of his own mistakes, which even he acknowledges. He has seriously let himself go since his days of being an athletic star quarterback, is a gambling addict with debts to pay, lives alone in a rundown apartment with barely any running water, works in a dead-end job as a restaurant waiter, and his even more horrible ex-wife, Heather St. Cloud, has custody of their kids, Audrey and Chip Jr, and constantly hassles him for alimony and child support while threatening to get their lawyers involved. It helps that, unlike Heather, Chip has at least matured over the years enough to give up his bullying ways, accept his own failures, and try to be a good parent to Audrey and Chip Jr. (certainly better than Heather).
** Kwan becomes this in "Blackmailed". Sure, he's a PeerPressuredBully and was a terrible boyfriend to Star, but he genuinely cares about her and is the least horrible member of the A-Listers as he doesn't bear Team Phantom any true malice despite being jealous of Danny dating Star since he's accepted that she is happy with him. Also, he's become so horrified and disgusted by the lengths Colette is willing to sink to just to ruin Star's life and steal Danny from her that he absolutely refuses to be involved in any of her schemes to split the couple up... until she blackmails him with an embarrassing secret. Kwan is then forced to help Colette frame Team Phantom for crimes they didn't commit and then blackmail Danny into dating her. He only grows more miserable and guilt-ridden with time while being constantly treated like dirt by Colette, and even when he decides to disregard her threats and come clean, he's now TrappedInVillainy due to the risk of going down with Colette due to his history with the A-Listers despite his fear and remorse. The harmful impact his unwilling assistance in Colette's actions have had on Team Phantom leaves him conflicted on whether he should try to stop Colette and risk getting in trouble, along with Star possibly hating him forever, or keep quiet and be forced to watch the girl he loves suffer.

* JerkassWoobie: Stella Bevier. She's a RichBitch and difficult mother who continually causes grief for her daughter and tries to excuse her family's abysmal treatment of others. However, it becomes obvious throughout the later stories that she's mainly like this because of a very demanding and controlling mother who Stella was forced to obey no matter how much she may disagree with her. Thanks to CharacterDevelopment, Stella is increasingly aware of just how awful the family members she tries to defend and care for really are, and is even uncertain if they truly care for her in return at all.

* JerkassWoobie: JerksAreWorseThanVillains: The most hated characters in the series aren't Team Phantom's rogues gallery (even Vlad) or any of the supernatural threats they face but Colette Bevier, Beatrice Traville, and Donovan Loadman for being snobby, unbearably unpleasant sociopaths with little to no redeeming qualities that go out of their way to ruin the main characters lives out of petty spite and a warped immature sense of entitlement.

* AlternativeCharacterInterpretation:
** "Visited" raises the question if Beatrice has always been such a HateSink or if she turned out like that as life went on, and if so, why?
*** Richard claims that Beatrice was genuinely sweet and kind when they first met but changed for the worst over the course of their marriage. Johnathan, however, thinks she was simply putting on an act and merely dropped it after getting Richard as a husband. Both interpretations come from admittedly biased sources, so it's unclear who has the more accurate read on Beatrice's behavior.
*** Beatrice being an ImpoverishedPatrician who was pushed to marry for money by her parents does paint her actions in a new light. She could honestly think she was doing what was best for the family given what happened to her, and her other flaws just obscure what would otherwise be good intentions. Beatrice could also be bitter that her parents shoved her into a relationship she wasn't looking for, even if Richard genuinely loves her. Remember that both Star and Stella have had issues with how their respective mothers tried to raise them, so this being a familial version of TheChainOfHarm wouldn't be surprising.
*** Beatrice's recently released biography gives credit to both interpretations of her behavior, as well as revealing her feelings about her ArrangedMarriage. She was raised from an early age to be a ProperLady and spoiled with every luxury that money could buy. However, when Beatrice turned 18, her family almost became bankrupt and was on the verge of losing their ancestral estate. Thus, her parents introduced her to many suitors, pressuring her to marry into a wealthy family in order for them to avoid poverty. When she met her future husband Richard, they seemed be a good match. Following a brief courtship, Richard fell in love with and proposed to Beatrice, and their wedding was held not long after. He then paid off her family's debt and restored their wealth. Despite the circumstances, Beatrice did get along with Richard at the start of their relationship and tried to be (at least HER idea of) a good wife. However, the bio makes it clear that Beatrice always thought she was superior to others because of her status in life, and also felt a deep resentment over the lack of control she had in her youth and the fact that she was essentially sold by her parents to the Traville family. That resentment, along with her own domineering personality, flaws, and twisted views, cemented into bitterness over the years, and she began to rule over the Traville estate with an iron fist. While Beatrice may have been a relatively better person when she was younger, she was always awful, mainly because she was raised that way. Since her family was desperate to regain their former wealth and status, Beatrice likely hid her awful personality from Richard until later in life in order to acquire control over his estate.
*** It's heavily implied that Beatrice's actions partly stem from how her family was almost rendered destitute and she was forced to marry to regain their fortune, which she never wants to happen again. At the same time though, it's made clear that she cares more about herself and her family's image rather than her family itself, and if Beatrice ever had good intentions or kinder personality traits, they were long gone by the time she became a grandmother.
** Stella's expanded backstory and HiddenDepths in the later stories raise some questions about her relationships.
*** Did she ever truly love Johnathan or just see him as a pet to satisfy herself? Stella reflects in "Lost" that she's not completely sure why she left Johnathan the way she did, and wonders if she felt neglected in favor of his work or simply grew bored with him. In "Bonding", Johnathan admits Stella was always hard to please and would usually blame him for her own failures, which is not helped by her claiming that she should've listened to her mother about not "marrying a common lawyer" like him. "Visited" reveals that Stella never defended Johnathan during their marriage from her mother's abuse because of his humble background, though she justifies it by Beatrice having raised her to never question her mother. This adds another element to her rediscovered feelings for her ex-husband, with Stella's CharacterDevelopment perhaps causing her to see Johnathan in a new light and regret not being more appreciative of him when they were married.
*** Did Stella ever truly love Jean-Luc Bevier or did she only subconsciously want to please her RichBitch mother Beatrice by marrying a BlueBlood who fits her elitist standards? Or both? While Stella claims they bonded over being aristocrats and she was swept up in his charm and sophistication, they don't seem close since in "Boxed", she admits she never knew Jean-Luc loved boxing despite being married to him for years at that point. Stella reveals in "Visited" while CallingTheOldWomanOut that Beatrice's expectations made her do things "without a second thought" which she now regrets, indicating her mother's influence did play a role in her impulsively running off with Jean-Luc. This suggests her constantly defending her husband despite him being an unfaithful womanizer stems from Stella being too scared of invoking Beatrice's wrath and admitting she ruined her first loving marriage AllForNothing to leave Jean-Luc, with the latter reason being only growing stronger after finally standing up to her mother.
*** Is Stella truly oblivious to Colette's true nature or just ignores it because her pride won't let her admit she failed SO spectacularly as a parent that she raised a sociopath? Spectra's testimony in "Dressed" implies that Stella is more aware of Colette's awful personality and disregard for her stepmother than she lets on, which lends some credence to the latter.
*** Considering the tension between Colette and Star, her refusal to acknowledge Colette is an irredeemable bitch despite Star's many complaints over the years and Colette's growing obsession with Danny bringing out her true colors could also be Stella not wanting to face the harsh truth that Colette (and Jean-Luc) never cared about her, meaning the years she spent raising her stepdaughter and her efforts to redeem her (neglecting Star in the process) were wasted.
*** "Blackmailed" explains that a major reason Stella is so lenient with her stepdaughter and insistent she can change is because she was led to believe Colette's biological mother and ex-stepmothers were all callous Gold Diggers who mistreated and abandoned her. Having been manipulated into believing she's Colette's "favorite stepmother", Stella constantly tries to give her a break despite her out of control behavior since coming to Amity Park because she wants to be a better mother to Colette in hopes of guiding her onto the right path. To her, this would be possible if Colette had a legitimate FreudianExcuse for her behavior and isn't just a sociopath.

** Did Stella ever truly love Johnathan or just saw him as a pet to satisfy herself?
*** In "Bonding", Johnathan admits Stella was always hard to please and would usually blame him for her own failures, it's not helped by Stella saying that she should've listened to her mother about not marrying a common lawyer like him. In "Visited", Johnathan admits that Stella would never defend him from her mother's abuse since they've hated each other when they immediately met because of his humble background.
** Did Stella ever truly love Jean-Luc Bevier or only married him because she subconsciously wanted to please her RichBitch mother Beatrice by marrying a wealthy BlueBlood who fits her elitist standards?
*** While Stella claims they bonded over being aristocrats, they don't seem close since in "Boxed" she admits she never knew he loved boxing despite being married to him for years
** Is Stella truly oblivious to Colette's true nature or just ignores it because her pride won't let her admit she failed SO spectacularly as a parent that she raised a sociopath?
*** Spectra's testimony in "Dressed" implies that Stella is more aware of Colette's awful personality than she lets on so it lends some credence to the latter.

* AlternativeCharacterInterpretation: AlternativeCharacterInterpretation:
**
"Visited" raises the question if Beatrice has always been such a HateSink or if she turned out like that as life went on, and if so, why?
** *** Richard claims that Beatrice was genuinely sweet and kind when they first met but changed for the worst over the course of their marriage. Johnathan, however, thinks she was simply putting on an act and merely dropped it after getting Richard as a husband. Both interpretations come from admittedly biased sources, so it's unclear who has the more accurate read on Beatrice's behavior.
** *** Beatrice being an ImpoverishedPatrician who was pushed to marry for money by her parents does paint her actions in a new light.
** *** Beatrice's recently released biography gives credit to both interpretations of her behavior, as well as revealing her feelings about her ArrangedMarriage. That resentment, along with her own domineering personality, flaws, and twisted views, cemented into bitterness over the years, and she began to rule over the Traville estate with an iron fist. background, though she justifies it by Beatrice having raised her to never question her mother. This could add another element to her rediscovered feelings for her ex-husband, with Stella's CharacterDevelopment likely causing her to see Johnathan in a new light and regret not being more appreciative of him when they were married.

years at that point. Stella implies in "Visited" while CallingTheOldWomanOut that Beatrice's expectations made her do things "without a second thought", which she now regrets, indicating her mother's influence did play a role in her impulsively running off with Jean-Luc.
** Is Stella truly oblivious to Colette's true nature or just ignores it because her pride won't let her admit she failed SO spectacularly as a parent that she raised a sociopath?
***
sociopath? Spectra's testimony in "Dressed" implies that Stella is more aware of Colette's awful personality and disregard for her stepmother than she lets on so it lends some credence to the latter.latter.
*** "Blackmailed" explains that a major reason Stella is so lenient with her stepdaughter is because she was led to believe Colette's biological mother and ex-stepmothers were all Gold Diggers who mistreated and abandoned her. Since Colette manipulated Stella into thinking she's her "favorite stepmother", Stella constantly tries to give her a break despite her out of control behavior since coming to Amity Park because she wants to be a better mother to Colette in hopes of guiding her onto the right path. Considering the tension between Colette and Star, Stella's refusal to acknowledge Colette is an irredeemable bitch could also be her not wanting to face the harsh truth that Colette (and Jean-Luc) never cared about her, meaning her years spent raising Colette and neglecting Star in the process were for nothing.
