The sequel (Buku wo Tsutsumu Tsuki no Hikari) adds a little more detail, it shows that the relationship got more serious and Alice got pregnant when Rin was 15.
You can argue Rin is mature for his age (since Shion\'s memories made him grow up too soon) but he was a dad at 16 years old while he was still in high-school, he\'s very young compared to her, even Alice herself is aware of that, and she planed to raise their child on her own if needed.

Alice is 16 years old and Rin is 7 years old on the beginning of the series. Rin develops feeling for Alice but he\'s not corresponded for several years (Alice even gets freaked out when Rin steals a kiss). The notes on the end of the series say they end up marring and had a child and that is the origin of this question.
