First time here and I have this question: anyone know the name of the Franz Liszt piece he did that sounded like something for weddings that he made because of his failed attempt to marry Carolyne zu Sayn-Wittgenstein? I caught it on the radio while doing an errand but I didn't get the name in time to memorize it.
You're probably looking for Festklänge, the seventh of Liszt's symphonic poems.
Just came across this great performance of Maurice Durufle's Requiem.

The universe is under no obligation to make sense to us.Kinda sad, regretful musing.
It's a real shame when Pavarotti was active, I was too uncultured to truly appreciate the sheer wonder that this man was. If I could go back in time, I would love to hear his live performance at least once.
I'm a (socialist) professional writer serializing a WWII alternate history webnovel.Mahler's Symphony No. 5 was probably the first classical piece I actually bought on CD. Still something I really enjoy.
In terms of more modern stuff - Philip Glass is great (I've now seen Satyagraha and Akhnaten live), I have a soft spot for John Adams' Nixon in China, and I've just started listening to some of Julia Wolfe's stuff, which is... powerful.
Two years later, but yeah, I think Lisitsa is very well known.
