General image-picking philosophy thought: it is better for an article to have no image than a bad image, but an okay image is better than no image, because it decreases the likelihood someone will add a bad image. True? good > okay > none > bad

I think Fast Eddie said something to that effect, yes.

I'm saying Great > Superboy > Superman > none > bad.

Thanks.

"I'm saying Great > Superboy > Superman > none > bad."

Ah, I disagree:

  • Superman is more iconic than Superboy.
  • Lois Lane is more iconic than Lana Lane.
  • The type says "In this issue: Lois Lane can do everything Superman can do!", which is exactly what Superpowers For A Day describes.
  • The electric belt thing could conceivably be doing something other than transferring powers, for all we know that girl can fly anyway. Its function is not obvious unless you read the speech bubbles.  *
  • When you do read the speech bubbles, Lana says the flight power is permanent, which would disqualify the transfer from being this trope. We can't tell she is wrong from the cover.
  • I know Lois Lane is a normal human; but who or what is that chick in the green costume?
  • The image is less busy.

This vs this, btw.

I think the Superman cover is great.

On reflection, I think the Superman/Lois picture is far stronger, boiling the trope down to its essence with no need to worry about the visual depiction of "temporary" because we can safely presume the audience knows who Lois Lane is.

  • Superman is more iconic than Superboy.
    • Indeed so and while I don't want to contribute to Fan Myopia (I don't think I've ever even read a Superboy comic) superman has done almost everything so I don't see how a picture of some else even though they are practically the same brand could hurt.
  • Lois Lane is more iconic than Lana Lane.
  • The type says "In this issue: Lois Lane can do everything Superman can do!", which is exactly what Superpowers For A Day describes.
    • So does the other one.
  • The electric belt thing could conceivably be doing something other than transferring powers, for all we know that girl can fly anyway. Its function is not obvious unless you read the speech bubbles.
    • It's not a great picture but I got the sense that if disconnected from the machine bad things would happen so that says to me temporary while the flying said superpowers.
  • Also, being attached to Superboy's waist by a three-foot leash is a really impractical way to fly, I object on aesthetic grounds.
    • another bonus point in the temporary column.
  • When you do read the speech bubbles, Lana says the flight power is permanent, which would disqualify the transfer from being this trope. We can't tell she is wrong from the cover.
    • That thought bubble doesn't sound like a statement of fact to me.
  • I know Lois Lane is a normal human; but who or what is that chick in the green costume?
    • and Superboy's speech bubble means nothing?
  • The image is less busy.
    • you're correct.

:)

Just one thing, no, the Superboy cover says "I've granted your wish, Lana! My cosmic belt transfers my super powers so you can fly like me for three hours.", not "In this issue: Lois Lane can do everything Superman can do!"

... and three hours sounds temporary to me. Sure it's not a day but again it's not a great image.

Comic-Book Time is a tricky problem since a issue could be a lot longer than "A Day". So it does not say the same thing but is still slightly better. Still not a great image.

I meant its information density.

I don't think duration matters, the title says "For A Day", but the trope is only "temporarily".
