Bob Harras has just been named the new Editor-In-Chief at DC. Industry reaction has been fairly positive. Fan reaction has, predictably, ranged from declaring this the worst decision DC has ever made, to declaring it the greatest decision ever, to complete apathy.

I am cautiously optimistic, Marvel under Harras had a lot of very good and very bad points. Also worth noting is that he's been the head of DC's collected editions department for a while now, and they now account for nearly half of DC's sales.

I remember the years Harras was an editor at Marvel. They had ups and downs, but it's still better than right now.

I'll just wait and see on this.

I'm on the internet. My arguments are invalid.

Coincidentally, I just bought part of Harras's run on Hercules. This was during the era that Hercules was traveling in space with his robot buddy Recorder and Skyppi the Skrull.

It was glorious cheesy fun.

Oops, no, sorry, that was Bob Layton, not Harras.

Well, Mark Waid claims that Harras is a complede dick who ruined a lot of comics. Warren Ellis, however, likes him. I'm confused.

Mark Waid seems to have a lot of personal issues with Harras. One of the bad things Harras did while he was E-i-C at Marvel was drive some good talent away, especially Mark Waid and Peter David.

Primo, that's all the more confusing to me because Ellis was also one of the writers Harras drove off in the late '90s (in the Marvel 2099 exodus that also cost us Peter David's Spider-Man 2099).

Am I the only person who read the title and wondered, "Why did a political commentator/comedian get appointed EIC of DC?"

So is he the dick who decided to package the main story of Blackest Night in seperate books by title instead of by order so you have to buy them all at once if you want the story to make sense?

Otherwise meh, DC trade paperbacks tend to be loaded with fluff which is good/bad I guess. By fluff I mean that my copy of arkham asylum is half comic half making of stuff.

But that's justified. The extras in most Morrison work help me understand what's going on.

Yeah but I can't help but feel I spent extra on stuff I have no use for nor any intention of reading to just take up space on my shelf. As I said it's good/bad cause some of it is neat or useful (52 I found it really interesting to read) other times it feels like pure fluff.
