Who's saying that he shouldn't be allowed to write it? All I see here is people criticizing his writing, which is what you should expect when you put it out in public.
Yeah, but he's still just making broad jokes with the players as stand-ins. For all of his talk about rebooting his characters, any of the strips since the reboot could have gone in pre-reboot without any problems.
Of course, we haven't exactly seen any of the characters he was talking about rebooting...the players aren't exactly what got him locked into a corner.
I'm kind of imagining the original cast getting converted into Players, now.
Maybe you'd be less disappointed if you stopped expecting things to be Carmen Sandiego movies.^ Except the Players were a lot better characters than Buckley's usual fare with Lucas and Lilah and Ethan.
I don't agree that the same jokes would have worked; the Players are very different characters than Lucas, Ethan, and Lilah were, and allow for a different set of jokes.
That being said, I'm still waiting for the plot reboot for Lucas, Ethan, and Lilah, but I can understand why the author is taking his time bringing that to bear.
My Tumblr. Currently liveblogging Haruhi Suzumiya and revisiting Danganronpa V3.Hmmm. I'm actually rather hopeful here.
I think I'll give the reboot a shot when it shows up.
One of my few regrets about being born female is the inability to grow a handlebar mustache. -LandstanderYeah, but we haven't hit the rebooted Ethan/Lucas yet, have we?
One of my few regrets about being born female is the inability to grow a handlebar mustache. -LandstanderI was rather hoping we never would.
He said that he's doing the Ethan/Lucas stuff in big monthly (at the very least) chunks to tell a whole story arc.
Long live Cinematech. FC:0259-0435-4987So, because the CAD page is locked, how do we go about editing it? There's a lot to add/change/remove now that the reboot is underway.
Submit a request to the mods explaining the situation, perhaps?
Long live Cinematech. FC:0259-0435-4987Possibly with a sandbox entry first.
"And as long as a sack of shit is not a good thing to be, chivalry will never die."I can't help but think that lightsaber wriststraps would just result in the dropped lightsaber whiplashing around and removing various portions of the owner's anatomy.
Any Jedi with the manual dexterity to pull off complex acrobatics with a lightsaber, two lightsabers, or even, god help you, a double-ended lightsaber without cutting themselves in half in the process has enough manual dexterity to usually handle keeping the wriststrap whiplash from bisecting them.
Although, to be honest, I've often wondered how they don't kill themselves with those things more often. Thocking yourself with your own weapon in practice is pretty standard for learning a martial art.

My Tumblr. Currently liveblogging Haruhi Suzumiya and revisiting Danganronpa V3.Well, that's probably true...
x4 I remember reading once on Wikipedia that lightsabers have some kind of dead-man switch, but footage of thrown lightabers has contradicted that (though that could be circumnavigated by using the Force on the switch when you throw it on purpose).

"And as long as a sack of shit is not a good thing to be, chivalry will never die."I remember reading something like that, and that Forcing the switch on while throwing is part of the trick. In other news, One is really bad at making characters.
Edit: also, if they are playing Pathfinder, the easiest way to make a fantasy Robocop is to make a Synthesist Summoner.

Me and my friend's collaborative webcomic: Forged MenThe deadman switch isn't standard with every lightsaber, IIRC. It's one of the many potential customization options for the Jedi. Much like Vader's supposedly built-in saber length adjuster (I believe it was suggested to account for the fact that his blade's length seems to vary in the movies).
If it was good enough for Ankh-Morpork...
"And as long as a sack of shit is not a good thing to be, chivalry will never die."So... well into the reboot, what does everyone think?
I've got two thoughts:
- 1 I still don't see anything that really needed a "reboot". The players are mostly-interchangeable pawns who do whatever needs to be done for that strip's joke. They're nerds, and that's as much defined personality as they need. I'm not seeing all of this extensive planning that supposedly took place.
- 2 The comic is better off without it anyway. His gag-a-day strips were always better than his dull, haphazard storylines, and I'm not missing the lack of "drama" that things like the CA Dbortion or Christian provided.
It's rather inoffensive. It's definitely better than what it used to be, but it's not particularly special either. Good enough to check in for the update and occasionally get a chuckle out of it, but not interesting enough to post in the forums about it.
I don't think the "reboot" has actually happened yet, since we haven't seen Ethan or the others show up. Buckley's indicated that they will. So until they show up (and I'm rather hoping they don't) this isn't so much a reboot as a restructuring.
Eh, I don't read this comic I just know that its kind of like Penny Arcade except with some hilariously narmy dramatic moments(I clicked this thread because I wasn't aware that it was still going on so I got curious), but does what the author thinks really matters? Even if comic is bad if authors wants to keep writing and drawing it why he isn't allowed to do so? Even if his choices are bad or sound like bad excuses?
