The foundation is nothing if not brutally pragmatic. It makes sense that they'd use anomalous/fringe technologies wherever possible if it means containing the anomaly; having so much of this stuff available and not doing anything with it just raises more questions, imo.

Well, that tech up is what happens with the scientific method. You do a thing enough times, and it seems reliable, so you use it.

I wonder if there are any SCP stories where the Foundation needed the help of the other alternative universe Foundations like that one group that united all of the different organizations into one and help made Earth a better place, like a problem that is so bad or unfamiliar that they needed the expertises of another AU foundation that was able to solve it in their own way.

No, but there are a couple SCP's where the Foundation unwittingly wiped out entire alternate Earths.

  • SCP-1322: The vaccine the Foundation sends to an alternate universe Earth for a deadly virus accidentally sterilizes that Earth's human population.

  • SCP-4823: The Foundation discovers an alternate Earth populated by sentient bananas. Unfortunately, they unwittingly introduce fruit flies to that planet...

[up][up]The closest if were they find an alternate dimension were COG and Fundation join into a group call Aegis and throw nearly every damn skip to a race of no descript aliens.

But other than that? no.

I assume that tweet means that someone IN Russia is hacking the wiki and not the Russian government. As amusing as it is that the Russian government is simultaneously invading Ukraine AND a psuedo-creepypasta wiki.

If it's all of Wikidot, it's not hard to think of things it might be being used for that could make it a Kremlin target.

I really should check this thread more often.

On the subject of the Foundation making use of the anomalous to facilitate its mission, including active weaponization... Some people may ask "What sets them apart from the Chaos Insurgency, then?", and the answer to that is simple: self-restraint. The Foundation tries to exhaust all non-anomalous means at its disposal first, only uses anomalous means (improvised or engineered) as a last resort, and does this not to benefit itself or some ideology but rather to protect humanity in particular and (secondarily) the rest of existence in general.

I think I've read one or two SCP articles where that happened in some fashion.

Honestly, I always saw the Foundation as being primarily interested in pushing the idea of "normalcy" - of convincing humanity at large that we live in a materialist universe that always obeys laws of physics that humanity has mostly figured out - and that the whole "saving the world" thing was largely incidental.

I remember one old Tale - it may be gone by now - where the Foundation had an "orientation" for a new Pot US that basically went, "Do whatever we say or we'll blow your fucking brains out."

[up]In one story a Daeva pretty much call them out as that: they are not imperalistic in the sense of "Im the boss now" but rather they have one idea and this how everyone play with it.

I remenber and article explain magic and when someone ask them why there is a university were magic is being pratice they said the foundation is ensuring that isnt know. "We ensure normalcy, not destroy everything until he got everything".

One SCP entry implied that the Foundation may not be ensuring normalcy at all. Rather, it is keeping the world from going BACK to normal. The premise is that the world used to be full of magic until an ancient ruler made a deal that deprived the world of it all.

The leaders of the Foundation are unsettled by the implication that all SCP’s are simply signs that magic is returning to the world. Meaning their entire mission is a lie.

Really because of the whole nature of the SCP Foundation, the thing is they could sort of be however you want as the interpretations of them have kind of Varied a lot.

In many interpretations the Chaos Insurgency seeks to Take Over the World, so 'Uses the Anomalous' alone would not peg the foundation as the Same.

The Foundation can just be a group trying to keep up Normalcy for the sake of hating change, or they could be the true Guardians of the world, its kind of up to you.

I recall one of the pages on the SCP's Mission Statement implies that SC Ps used to be more common, and they're becoming more common again. However, the same page also implies that "magic coming back" would be a very bad thing for our civilization.

Of course, the Depending on the Writer thing matters a lot here. You can interpret The Foundation and the Chaos Insurgency in a lot of different ways. Personally I prefer the more optimistic interpretation of The Foundation, which is that they're mostly benevolent even if coldly utilitarian.

To be fair some things don't really match this, like the treatment of D-Class.

Chaos Insurgency I've seen argued has the issue of not being well-defined beyond being The Foundation's enemy, and other organizations being introduced with more clear motivations and ideology, like Serpent's Hand and GOC.

Personally, what I'd go for is to actually embrace that in a sense and have them simply be borderline Card Carrying Villains. In a world of moral ambiguity, The Chaos Insurgency is unambiguously evil.

With things like The Foundation using anomalies and such, I will say I don't think it's out of character so much as out of tone. I see Muggles Do It Better as being key to The Foundation's theming, so I'd say in a Foundation story they should ideally use as minimal magic or explicitly sci-fi tech as possible, though them using it at all makes sense.

[up][up]I like the interpretations that "what's anomalous is entirely subjective" because it makes the SCP Foundation classic hypocrites like any government worth their salt
