Apparently Comixology updated their site to be more in line with Kindle and Amazon's other book selling stuff, but I haven't seen any changes on my phone or computer yet. Are other people experiencing this?

Yeah, I have.

The app is awful now. It's completely disorganized and bare bones. Worst of all, it's very limited to people outside USA, from what I can see it doesn't even let you buy? You have to buy on Amazon in order to later synch the app.

The desktop version is even worse. The comixology site as is gone, now it's "Kindle comics" and I have no idea how it works.

Yeah, the App sucks now. Basically, discoverability is dead, It's a hassle to actually read stuff on the browser now, you can't make purchases from the mobile app, the UI on both is just bad, searching for series is a nightmare, you can't actually subscribe to any series if you live outside of the U.S. so international users are getting screwed over, you can no longer archive books so your catalog is a mess.

Oh, and if you never merged your Comixology and Amazon accounts prior, your SOL because all your past purchases got nuked along with Comixology.

Yeah, my mobile updated a day or so ago, and it's definitely a worse experience than before. Anyone know why Amazon wanted to so drastically change Comixology like this? Like, is this supposed to bring it more in line with Kindle stuff? I legitimately have no idea.

That seems like it. They probably just wanted to save a a few bucks and folded Comi Xology into the Kindle service.

On his birthday (February 20), I thought it would be appropriate to share the WatchTower Database's fan-made documentary on the late Dwayne McDuffie. The legendary creator has had his hands in both Marvel and DC, indie affairs, and other franchises like Ben 10, hence putting it in this specific thread.

Rest in Power.

Odd place to ask this, but what's the overall opinion on Comic Book Resources?

I've seen people post links from it before, but I'm not sure what tropes actually think of it.

The forum is trash. It's basic diet-Comicgate central but the mods let so much stuff fly that it continues to fester.

The articles themselves are pretty meh. They've gone the buzzfeed route of listicles As far as actual comic news goes I feel like Newsarama is better on that front.

I haven't seen comicsgaters there, but then I only read the DC stuff. It seems to be peopled mainly by people who have been reading since pre-Crisis times. I've found some interesting information there, like links to Grant Morrison's substack, confirmation that this year's animated Green Lantern movie will be about John Stewart, and a summary of something Scott Snyder said on a podcast about his involvement in 5G.

Brian Cronin's articles are pretty good.

I've enjoyed articles on Comic Book Resources, particularly the ones about comics history, though as with a lot of such sites their editorial standards generally suck.

Stay out of the comments section on more general pop-cultural threads, and you'll be fine.

Not sure if this is the right spot, but I'm looking for a comic I read some years ago. Basically It was about a group of girls living in a coastal town with a secret(some kind of treasure). One of the girls who works at a local tourist trap about the treasure gets mugged in relation to the treasure. The cover of the first issue was the girls with the group mascot a german shepard with the town in the background.

This is about a week old, but continuing Comixology's downward slope: You can no longer buy comics in the Android mobile app. Google apparently is taking a bigger cut of in-app purchases so Amazon is removing that option. As someone who reads most of their comics on their Android, this was a pretty nasty surprise last week.

EDIT: And in other, more positive news, Vault Comics is releasing some of their queer books for free on their store every Monday in June for Pride Month.

So what's everyone's "never thought it would happen, but wow, they actually did it" moment in comics? I personally can't believe they brought back Post-Crisis Lois and Clark. Like, it's one thing to bring back Wally West, but to actually replace the New 52 Superman with the Dan Jurgens Post-Crisis Superman feels like a Fix Fic pipe dream by a miffed fan that actually came true. I'm not complaining. When you think about it, superhero comics have pretty much been fanfiction for the last 50 years.

The very best, like no one ever was. Check out my Spider-Man fanfic here! [1]

RIP Alan Grant.

[up]x3 I'm not sure if it's exactly what you're asking for, but I was very pleasantly surprised by the announcement of Spider-Man: Life Story, since I had thought of the basic "Spider-Man but in real time" premise a few months before it was announced.

Why is Isom as a comic being considered important? Just seems rather generic from its description and it is making money because the creator has been an ass about "get politics out of comics" online. Is that really all there is to it?

I'm not sure if this is the right place to put this, but how is the state of IDW comics? I heard that they are losing the license to the Transformers and G.I. Joe comics and that the Transformers comics were their longest running series. So since this is happening, will this have a negative impact on IDW or will IDW still stand anyway without the Transformers comics?

They had a rough 2020 (like every business) and there was uncertantity about their future, but haven't heard anything bad in a while. Losing the Hasbro licenses is certainly bad, but they've seem to be recovering from their loses during 2020.

I guess it's doing alright now, especially since Sonic the Hedgehog (IDW) is selling pretty well and they still have the rights to My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic (IDW) and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (IDW).

Speaking of IDW...

TIL that we *almost* got one last Transformers comic book miniseries from them called Transformers: Collision Course and it sounds like it would have been the Transformers equivalent of Crisis on Infinite Earths and it looked SICK AF!

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/transformerscollisioncourse_multiverse.jpeg

Nope, your eyes aren't deceiving you, folks. We would've seen Animated, Prime, RID 2015, Beast Wars, Beast Wars II, IDW's first G1 continuity, Hearts of Steel, Rescue Bots, Transformers vs. G.I. Joe, and Marvel G1 clashing with each other and it looks epic and I'm sad. sad

Evidence suggests that the event was scrapped really late because Transformers: Best of the Rarities had a cover featuring Armada Megatron and Regeneration One Starscream putting on their best "Oh Slag!" faces and someone saw something about an unfinished cover by Marvel UK Transformers artist Geoff Senior that had Beast Wars Megatron fighting G1 Grimlock.

I guess IDW figured something more subdued like the end of IDW's Beast Wars series or Last Bot Standing, a miniseries by Nick Roche and E. J. Su which has Hot Rod going all Logan and serves as a "hypothetical last story" to Transformers in general, would be more ideal ways to end their time on our favorite Robots in Disguise than an admittedly contrived story like "OMGWTFBBQ ALL TF CONTINUITIES COLLIDING TOGETHER AGGH!"

Silver lining: there's precedent that the next publisher of Transformers comics could take this story and make it themselves. Megatron Origin was originally conceived for the Dreamwave G1 continuity until Dreamwave went belly up and the story was refitted for IDW's G1 universe.

I'll say the same thing I said in the main Transformers thread (not really, but the same sentiment):

Seeing all these different versions of the characters interact would have been quite the sight.

Hah. We could have maybe gotten G1 Ratchet, Animated Ratchet, and Prime Ratchet.

The latter two would have probably had a who's the bigger grump contest.[lol]
