I don't see any problem with it. One of the reasons the "better no picture than a semi-good picture" principle's out there is because people seem so reluctant to replace an existing picture. If someone's breaking that trend and improving a page on their own initiative, good on them (though they should probably leave the old and new pic links in the Discussion page in case anyone prefers the old one). If it turns out to be a controversial move, that's when it could go to Image Pickin' for discussion. Wiki editing by committee should be a last resort, not the first step.

"And for the first time in weeks, I felt the boredom go away!"I just think it sets a bad precedent to have removal of an existing image as a unilateral action. It's most obviously bad for pages where the existing image was, itself, chosen after exhaustive debate in Image Pickin'. I think the Tomb Raider image long predates Image Pickin', but nonetheless the principle is the same.
I expect this thread will quickly ratify the change with a "new image looks great!" consensus, but proper procedure should be followed.
Jet-a-Reeno!I remember a discussion about that image somewhere, but it wasn't in its own thread.
Edit: Here. It's a very short discussion.

There was discussion about changing the image. It wasn't unilateral. It just wasn't in this thread.
Reality is that, which when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away. -Philip K. DickI believe that it's okay to replace an okay image with a better image unilaterally, the problem is that what's better is subject to Fan Myopia, so it's best to get consensus first if you're worried.
Fight smart, not fair.I don't see how the new picture is any better. In fact, I think it's not better on several counts: It's a bunch of girls, not one. The Fanservice quotient is much more obtrusive. It's all guns.
And one post saying "Hey, this image might work for Action Girl" isn't a discussion at all.

...if you don’t love you’re dead, and if you do, they’ll kill you for it.And the discussion being in another thread is an issue. While I'll grant that Action Girl and Hot Amazon are closely related "sister" tropes, someone concerned about the image in Action Girl might never have read the thread, since it was ostensibly about Hot Amazon.
Jet-a-Reeno!I think the new picture is about as good as the Tomb Raider one (though I could do without the fanservice). But I agree that images should not be changed without discussion.
I restored the perfectly good image that was there. Replacement was definitely not a lot better. Anyway, showing a group for a single character type is a bit off.
Goal: Clear, Concise and WittyLocking.

I noticed that this image was changed, apparently as an offshoot of the Hot Amazon Image Pickin' discussion.
The new image is great, but in principle, I don't think any image should be replaced without at least a pro forma discussion in Image Pickin'.
