Gotta say, this fic really is a hell of a ride, though it does, regrettably, seem to be gradually losing its sense of direction as it progresses.

Nobody Dies started out good, got better, slowed down with the whole AU jumping, got bogged down in silly video game ripoffs, but now its starting to pick up again. The latest chapter felt very much like the earlier ones.

And I missed canon!Rei about three paragraphs in.

First-person present can be pretty handy for getting into a character's head, though it's sometimes an absolute bitch to write well.

I hadn't noticed it was in present tene until you pointed it out...

So how've ye been findin' the story so far, Raw?

'Bout time this got a topic, since I got tired of lurking the Spacebattles topic.

All things considered, I'm glad we're finally getting into semi-sensible territory again. The whole multiverse arc felt stiff in itself, and about the time Fem Shep showed up I wanted to bang my head against the wall (admittedly, that WAS in Rei's side story, but Tali being around didn't really click with me). Then things got better. Then we got Asuka Sorhyu vs the World, and I don't know how to hell I forced myself through that. Probably because it had actual plot interspaced with the useless pop-culture crap[1]. Things are finally looking good again, especially since Kei is getting more focus time[2].

[1] My main gripe is that Asuka's 'I'm done getting shoved around' arc was...that. It could have been the defining moment of her character. Instead we got...something I didn't enjoy, and thought was compltely useless, even in light of the little twist at the end.

[2] Kei is easily my favourite of the Ree, since she's the most like Canon Rei, who, I have to say, I like considerably more than this incarnation of Rei. THERE I SAID IT -ducks molotovs-

The main Rei is based off Dot. I thought this was clear from the beginning.

... Really? I'm sorry, I watched the Animaniacs in Arabic, so I think many, many references flew completely over my head...

What was the multiple rei reip chapter about anyway? And what's loss of ocular virginity?
