Most of those pictures aren't that great. The drills are so large that you can't really see they're being wielded. I like the Big Daddy picture from Bioshock best so far.

Naw I'm just messing with ya. There is support for some of my images, though...
Darn it, now I want to go hunting for a better pick to prove you wrong, but it's like 2 in the morning here...
edit:
Oh well, so much for sleep. Here's another picture. One where the drill is of a bit more of a modest size.
I think I actually prefer Lagann's drill. The picture ended up a lot cleaner.

I have a message from another time...I think TTGL examples are contested more because it is over-represented on TV Tropes than over-rated as a show. The show could provide an ideal example, but the still images thus far are too abstract to be read as drills or weapons to an uninformed viewer.
Big Daddy is a great example, but I'm having trouble finding a good image that emphasizes the drill more than the character. Here's some concept art from Bioshock 2: Also, Ground Man, from Mega Man somethin'-somethin':
^My thoughts exactly.
Some more images:
- From MegaMan, forgot the name◊
- Super Robot Wars◊
- Another Gurren Lagann drill◊
- Yet another◊
- If we want to be funny
Sorry for adding so many from Gurren Lagann. There are just so many. Image search 'drill mecha' and you'll see what I mean.

Ah, but that's not a weapon.
Seriously, guys, I could understand not wanting to cram Gurren Lagann into everything, but this trope? The one it's oft-cited as the Most Triumphant Example for? Now, I can understand if other shows have better pictures, but merely dismissing this one for overexposure when finding an image for a trope to which it's perfectly suited is just wilful perversity.
What's precedent ever done for us?I don't understand this whole "Gurren Lagann" is overrated and all. There are tons of Last Airbender pictures and I don't see anyone complaining. Besides, we have only three images
Who defines this "overratedness" anyway?
I'm a (socialist) professional writer serializing a WWII alternate history webnovel.^ Actually, Gurren Lagann isn't even on Cool Shades. So two images.
As for the pictures recently posted, I think that the Kittan◊ picture is almost perfect. The drill is completely in the picture, clear and obviously a drill. Plus, we've got just that little bit of delicious ridiculousness, due to the sheer size of it.
Also, what's this about the Gurren Lagann drills being too abstract to be read as drills? Some of the action shots are pretty abstract, sure, but come on. Can you honestly say that this wouldn't be read as a drill?

I have a message from another time...I like the technical diagram.
Fight smart, not fair.Drill Man or the following Gurren-Lagann image for me. G-L might be overexposed in general but it's certainly not overused for page images and it's a clear, well-known example.
Edit: Also, what the hell happened to Cool Shades? I didn't care for the adulteration of the Blues Brothers, but that picture is horrid.

And because I can't stop looking for pictures, here's another shot of Lagann, for consideration.
I have a message from another time...
^Enlong - That is one of the pictures (EDIT: the picture of just the head flying with the drill) where it's clearly a drill, but I'm not sure that it's clearly a weapon. If someone who has never seen or heard about show can identify it as a weapon, it's an option. As for Kittan, I think the mecha on the end of the drill might be hard to identify as humanoid when the image is shrunk.
I'm not dismissing TTGL. The comment about it being overrepresented was more of a reaction to Silent's criticism that is overrated. I was going to ramble on about how overrepresented Last Airbender is, but stopped myself because I thought it was irrelevant to this discussion.

^ Well, I'ld loke to point to the picture in my post two posts above this one, though it may be that the green lighting obscures it a bit, I dunno.
Personally, I also like this one. Does anyone know what episode and roughly what time in the episode it's from so that I can grab a version without the time watermark on it?
I have a message from another time...
I see a drill. I have no idea what the red thing in the corner is nor does it look like a weapon.
Reality is that, which when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away. -Philip K. DickCan you find one without the time stamp? That shot would be great without it.
Can we find a shot from Total Recall of Ahnold wielding the drill of doom?

Fight smart, not fair.^^ What.
You honestly can't see the face, or the fact that the drill is attached to an arm?
edit:
^ That's why I asked if anyone knew which episode that's from, so I can go gallivanting off to find a version without the watermark.

I have a message from another time...No. There's a face in there? It's just some blocky red thing. I'm sorry.
Reality is that, which when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away. -Philip K. DickWhat IS the red thing in the corner.
I...
I believe that you honestly aren't seeing it, but I just can't not see it even if I try.
edit: it's the flagship robot for the series. this dude◊.

I have a message from another time...I'm sure it's completely clear to you, but you also know what the whole thing looks like so your brain fills in the missing information in the picture for you. I have no idea what the whole thing looks like so it just looks like a red thing to me.
Reality is that, which when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away. -Philip K. DickAll right. I can concede that point.
Any thoughts on this one? Three drills, and the shape is pretty distinct despite the lighting.
I have a message from another time...
Seconding a Big Daddy image. Clearly a drill, clearly a drill wielded as a weapon (the context and design of the Daddy is clear enough without having to know Bioshock), yet not so stupidly large as to look like a parody.
They looks more like decorations and the whole picture is washed out and hard to see.

Crown Description:
Nominations for replacement images:
Does the overratedness (or lack thereof, as the case may be) of a series mean that an image from it fits the trope any less?
This is a trope about drills as weapons: TTGL has lots of pictures (and some very good ones) with drills as weapons. We should pick a picture based on the quality and how well it fits the trope, regardless of Hype Aversion.
