[up] To be honest, they are awful so no matter WHY they lose the One Piece world WINS.

EDIT: There was a MIGHTY AMOUNT of Remember the New Guy? in this chapter. Apparently EVERYONE knows who Vegapunk is, even characters from arcs as early as fucking Syrup Village. I need either fishysaur or Critic to help me know if this is bullshit or if this rant I am typing is the bullshit. Prior to Egghead I didnt feel like Vegapunk was such a famous guy, sure whoever knew him knew he was awesome, so he was praised but now most of his knowledge IS known to even characters outside the Grand Line.

Our only POV's of hearing the name "Vegapunk" for the first time are Luffy and the wire-tapping Nami. I don't think there's anything contradicting East Blue folks in general knowing.

Keep in mind, we didn't really have any reason for characters outside the Grand Line to mention Vegapunk before. Especially 2 years ago.

Pre-Timeskip, Egghead itself wasn't even fully built. Caesar had only blown up Punk Hazard 2 years prior, and that was Vegapunk's main lab. I think it's plausible that knowledge of Vegapunk only became more known over the timeskip. At least, that's when I imagine Kaya learned about him. Since she didn't start training to be a nurse until after Syrup Village, she wouldn't have any reason to have heard about his advancements in medicine before that point.

On a different subject, Chopper's Guard Point is WAY better Post-Timeskip than it was Pre-Timeskip.

Vegapunk is responsible for a lot of technological advancements in the world, it’s really not far-fetched that people would have heard of him before.

You know some people refuse to believe that Zoro unlocked Haki in Alabasta? I feel like Oda couldn't have been clearer with this phrasing:

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/0194_016.jpg

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/0939_014.jpg

That's how Zoro was able to beat Mr. 1, with really basic Armament Haki.

I don't think it's a retcon. There's some pretty explicitly supernatural stuff here that lines up perfectly with Observation Haki.

Between this, Shanks scaring away the Sea King, and Mantra, I'm pretty sure Haki was always part of the plan for the series. The only part of Haki that I think Oda made up during the series is the "Armament Haki can touch Logia users" bit, since that contradicts a couple lines in Ace vs Smoker and Ace vs Blackbeard.

I think Armament Haki and Observation Haki are introduced later, during the Sabaody Arc (yes, there was Mantra, but was treated as its own thing unique to Skypiea); especially Armament Haki as it makes Tekkai pretty useless

Iron Body is Armament Haki. Finger Pistol too. And Paper Arts is Observation Haki.

Lucci's Vivre Card says "Over the timeskip, he improved his Six Powers-related Haki".

And Jimbei and Who's Who both refer to Armament Haki as "Iron Body".

[up][up]Though using Tekkai was explicitly said to restrict the users movement during Enies Lobby, which is not something Armament was ever shown to do. So that seems like a sign that the connection was a retcon.

Just realized that the reveal that "Wano" is actually set on mountaintops and the true Wano was sunk under the water was likely foreshadowing that being the case for the entire world, which is why everything is islands.

[up][up][up] There's several visual gags with the snails. Crocus' has his weird flower petal hair. The cavemen Chopper helped have one with a topknot like they do. Duval's is wearing a miniature version of his old helmet!

1) Yes, I think Oda made a good job at incorporate Haki in the world, even retroactively, especially after the time-skip, despite (I believe) having come up with it very late

2) Wow, that Going-Merry snail detail is adorable. One of the reasons I love One Piece is for these tiny details that show how much effort and love he puts into the series

[up] one nice touch to #1 is how the sudden appearance of blackened body parts while using Armament can be interpreted as the audience not being able to see Haki in use until Luffy could.

@ Moth: There's been SO many hints at this reveal coming for the vast majority of the manga's run time. As far back as Alabasta there were mentions of mysterious floods with no known cause. In Water 7 we're told the Aqua Laguna storms have been getting worse, to the point Iceberg feels the city needs to be entirely converted into a giant ship if the people are to survive. Fishman Island, the Ark Noah speaks for itself. Zou, we've got Zunesha carrying the Minks' entire civilization in his back, high above the water, to atone for some vanished crime in the Void Century. And finally, the mysterious Wano sea wall.

I'm not one of those that blindly worships "Goda," but I can say with confidence that yes, this was almost certainly going to be a major element of the endgame all along.

To think there was a time where we thought this arc would be a breather, mostly just giving us exposition and world-building like Jaya, Fishman Island (to an extent), and Zou.

And Oda was like "Oh, you'll get your fucking exposition alright. But you're not getting a breather!"

The only thing this arc that has been as easy to handle as people guessed it would is Lucci if we're being honest.

Arc was supposed to just be lore with no stakes? Now we're fighting the leaders of the world.

Bonney just being another Supernova of the arc? Now she has an entire law level backstory..

It feels crazy to say but this arc might have genuinly had more developments for One Pieces main story then any other arc in the entire series at this point.

And its not even finished yet.

It's funny how the arcs involving government official islands tend to be the best of arcs.

Due to unfortunate events, i will continue to exist until further notice.
