Sad thing that Canada never got to Chopper, even if the 4kids dub taking a LOT OF EPISODES OUT. Sure, it IS the 4kids dub so its not a surprise it flopped but still!.

Hi. I have a question: what do detractors actually mean when they call One Piece “Mid Piece”? I see it almost every time I roam online and it baffles me. Like Mid is supposed to mean “Mediocre” or “Okay” which is neither good nor bad, but it’s seems to be used more as “trash” or “poor quality”, if not boring. I just don’t get it.

I have literally never heard that term before so I don't know.

It's just that, that One Piece is mediocre and nothing special. Not much more to it than that.

Also speaking of the 4kids dub, Erica Schroeder (4kids Luffy, Credited as Bella Hudson) revealed major bombshells about the 4kids dub. That Toei indeed was VERY involved in the dub early own but then left 4kids to their own devices, even when they begged for guidance in the Arlong Park arc when they needed to get Nami's motivations right. So Toei is EVEN MORE to blame for the Arlong Park Arc's Mace Kre. If 4kids had gotten the guidance they needed the 4kids dub could have indeed been legit good.

[[folder:4Kids Interview Stuff] Finally, we have the casting of Luffy. She said she was not the original choice for Luffy. Originally, 4Kids cast a man, whose identity she said she is concealing until she has permission to reveal it. The Japanese side didn’t want a man for the role, and it ended up being recast as her. There was a discussion of how involved the Japanese side was in specifically the first 3 episodes. They were helping with developing her Luffy laugh, among other things. It is a bit surprising, because no other 4Kids actor on this show has really mentioned the Japanese side critiquing their performance as they were developing their character voice. Surprisingly, the Japanese side of things was very involved with One Piece, especially early on.

Another interview had a producer mention how they were given the Viz manga and told to use it as a basis for their dub early on. It would explain why the dub begins to really fall apart after the East Blue saga, with all the skipped arcs, some of which were filler and would never have a Viz manga translation as a result. At some point, I believe during the Baratie arc or possibly Arlong Park, they passed the manga’s current point in translation. When they tried consulting with the Japanese side on things like Nami’s motivation for her money obsession, the Japanese side treated it like a stupid question and didn’t provide them with information.[[/folder]]

That absolutely sucks, but I think international cooperation was pretty rare in anime back then. Its not as though Funimation got a lot of guidance for their original dub of Dragon Ball Z. Toei makes some annoying, head scratching, and sometimes just bad decisions. But I don't really know if that story is the "bombshell" you think it is. Not that I mean to to disparage you sharing it or anything, its still clearly a fascinating insight.

Even if Toei had been more hands on, that wouldn't necessarily fix the issues of 4Kids's poor scripting and overbearing censorship.

I do wonder if there could have been a universe where 4kids One Piece ended up like old versions of Yugioh, Pokemon, or Dragonball, where there's still a bunch of censorship and inaccuracies but it ends up widely beloved regardless.

I agree on not being a bombshell and me just overhyping, but disagree that Toei helping them during Arlong Park would have turned out the exact same. Sure they WOULD have had to censor the arc, but if they had known how vital the backstory was they could have tried a more Liberty's Kids where characters actually die on Saturday Morning and even guns are seen. It's just softened but you get the exact amount of emotion from it.

I have to say, part of me is still having a hard time understanding why Law decided to end his alliance with Luffy after the battle for Wano. I mean, I can understand why Eustass D. Kidd decided to leave, seeing as how he was never allied with either of them to begin with, but, with the recent development of Luffy becoming one of the Four Emperors, you would think that someone like Law would view it as a good idea to keep the Straw Hat crew as the Heart Pirates’ allies.

Also, as strange as it is to ask, what do you think would’ve happened if Law took Luffy’s heart?

I even feel worse because I saw this and thought "Oh an old guy, I dont know his name so he probably never did anything I watched." I feel like I'm the worst.

My fan theory is that Law didn't take a copy of Wano's Road Poneglyph. He gave Kid his, and himself HAS realized Luffy's the man who'll be King of the Pirates.

Bummer. Tom's one of my favorite mentor figures.

And episode 1101 finishes up the Luffy vs Lucci fight. This episode covered more than I thought, I thought it was just going to end with Dawn Rocket, but they adapted a few more pages after that. Still not the full chapter, though, more like 80% as opposed to the usual 66%. The animation made for an awesome finale to the rematch, I loved that Lucci had flashbacks to the Giant Pistol when Luffy was flying toward him with Dawn Rocket.

It's been mentioned before, but something is going on with Franky's voice actor, Kazuki Yao. It was really noticeable in this episode with the Senor Pink scene. I hope he's doing okay.

Most of this is more fighting with the Elders. Nusjuro's beaten all the Pacifistas now and ends up near Nami's group. Saturn is also climbing the tower to them. Luffy and the Giants fight Ju Peter and Warcury, the latter of whom is so durable that when Luffy tries a Haki-infused Gear 3 attack, he's the one that gets hurt. Ju Peter meanwhile is trying to inhale everything he can in his big Sandworm mouth. We finally get back to Stussy, who's stayed behind to lower the barrier even knowing she'll probably die. And Mars finds the source of the signal, an innocuous little Snailphone, with one minute to go...

Oh, and Franky beats VA Red King in one hit, so if you're a powerscaler you've got something to chew on.

HERE WE GO! The Void Month has ended.

I have been wondering where Stussy has been, turns out she chose to stay to lower the barrier at the right moment to escape. And from the looks of it might Edison also need to stay behind to assure everything will work out as planned. I think Lilith might really be the only Vegapunk to leave Egghead at the end of this all.

Now we know the source of the transmission, I was betting on it comming actually from a different island with how sure Vegapunk was about it not being disrupted. Still with Mars reaction in the final panel it seems there is still something to defend it, something making blubbering noises. Could Punk Records itself be getting involved here?

Hákarl is an actual Icelandic dish btw, I have heard it described as the single most disgusting food in existance.

Why do I have a feeling that the transponder snail is a trap?

My answer is that it seems... a little too easy for the Five Elder Stars to succeed, here and now. Some sort of countermeasure will be triggered.

The Elders seem to be pairing off against the Straw Hats and allies now, too... maybe they will go down here after all?

I have been wondering if that call Shaka made to Dragon about his own impending death was foreshadowing the transmitter being with the revolutionaries.
