@Tongpu: Read the colored bonus story in #4 then. It's also on the Dark Horse HP.

Usually I prefer color too, but Adam warren's pencil sketches are so great, with so many details, I don't miss it.

I like that Empowered's not in color. Just like with photography, there are things you can do with black and white that you can't do with color, just like there are things you can do with color that you can't with black and white. It's good to have both options available in different titles.

As long as the artist is good at keeping the image clear in black and white, and I'd say Warren is, I find black and white every bit as pleasing to look at as color. And honestly, what color bits I have seen from Empowered haven't impressed me much.

Anyway, if it were in color it would cost more to print (and therefore to buy) and take longer to make.

The thing about Empowered is that it's not just uncolored. It's not even inked. The final, published pages are nothing but pencil on paper.

Adam Warren is scary good.

Yet he's repeatedly said that he enjoys writing far more than the drawing. Oy vey.

Sneak preview of Volume 6's cover.

...terrifyingly enough, doing EMPOWERED is a comparative luxury(!) that has to be subsidized by other work...

Psst! Even though Vol. 6's not out yet,I was able to "look inside" on Amazon and read part of the first story. Super Dirty Jobs. Hee. Looks like Turbobrain survived... so far.

Next thursday I'll make my way over to Comicopia (shameless plug) to pick up a copy, this time hopefully I'll do it in a sane manner (we won't talk about how lost I got yesterday, stupid boston with it's lazy system of only sometimes labeling streets).

BTW,do we have a trope for "This just in..." news reports? None of the News Tropes quite fit; they all seem to be subtropes.

Works for me. Maidman is a clear knockoff of Kamen no Maid Guy anyway.

^^Nope - I was the one who added it to Ship Tease. These days, though,it's Ninjette/Thugboy/Emp for me.

Got Volume 6 today

Dammit, Havoc survived, kinda figured he would though.

Geez, Deathmonger is gonna need his own page on Complete Monster and Nightmare Fuel.

I personally suspect that the "half" of the one and a half survivors is Robotomy. He's a robot; so long as his core processors and memory are intact, the rest can be restored, so he colud be "half" a survivor. The other, of course, will be Havoc. He's a high-end brick, from what little we're told.

Read volume 6. Fffffuck me. Half of it was normal Emp,if a bit more serious. The other half was so GRIMDARK it was almost a parody. Example: poor Spooky is just left to lie catatonic by her teammates, smiling away like the Joker, then - THEN - the demon who accidentally gave her her powers tells her that Mindfuck's in hell, receiving the worst torture imaginable. I can't quite believe that Adam Warren would be that dickish, but here it is,right in front of me.

Off course he'd be that dickish. It's Adam "Kill Em All" Warren.

Goddammit thanks to a vol 6 review(which wasn't so much a review of the volume as it was the series as a whole)which mentioned Hard Kore talking like Christan Bale due to decomposing vocal cords, I can't stop hearing Maidman sounding like a higher pitched Kevin Conroy to offset that. wow Thug Boy ,you seriously wanted to use a Daisy Cutter on a cape funeral?. while I like that they mentioned a little more on the "Capeless Uprising of San Antonio" I would have liked to see more of Thugboy's past or another Willy Pete nightmare. Speaking of ol White Phosphorous, I was bummed out that aside from the squicky hilarious statement dance remix and the Yoai doujins he wasn't mentioned at all.

As for Death Monger, I think he was a nice twist on the usual necromancer theme....and completely got what he deserved via Emp. Manny warned you not to underestimate her didn't he asshole!. Manny's lack of appearance also bugged me as well, as his appearance with Dwarf/Flesh Master in tow will perhaps be the thing needed to Shut Havoc Up. Plus to me the little guy always sounds like a much friendlier version of Gizmo from Teen Titans. Seriously does Captain Rivet just completely ignore all of his team mates abusing of Emp?

^^It's the treatment of Mindfuck's soul that got to me. It was, dare I say,fridge-stuffingly gratuitous.

^And thanks for reminding me of that other niggle - the new levels of nastiness from the Superhomies. Why doesn't Rivet step in more? Is it like school where the adults intervening makes things worse?
