The Fey Conflict Sign-Up

Discussion Thread.

The year is 2060. 30 years ago Earth was connected to another world of magic and wonder via a mass of magical portals created on the other world by its inhabitants to flee from invasion by hordes of monsters from the north. Millions of fleeing beings - who were thought to only exist in legends and myths, known collectively as "Fey" - poured onto the Earth seeking refuge. In a last desperate attempt to survive the peoples of the other world drew the magic the land itself to leave it forever.

Unfortunetly the monsters followed them through the portals and attacked humanity as well. And the portals closed. Battle erupted across the planet as the nations of Earth fought off the invaders. Eventually the mosters were exterminated, at great cost to humanity though.

Fast foward to 2060 and the problems over the great migration have not gone away. The human nations have recovered but they and the Fey refugees and their offspring have grown more belligerant towards each other over the years; cultures and species clashing in ways neither were prepared for. It has gotten so out of hand that in the USA there has been a growing movement by some Fey to band together and form their own nation carved out of the Northeastern states.

Players will be either human or one of the Fey races (these can be whatever mythological creature you can think of, be it from European myths or Japanese, or Native American, or whatever). Whether any of you know each other already or not is up to you, but you actions will intentionally or not, spark a reaction across the country that will determine the fate of both humanity and the Fey.

• NAME: Jarret Hilton
• SPECIES: Human all the way.
• SEX: Male
• AGE: 26
• OCCUPATION: FBI, Fae Negotiations Branch
• APPEARANCE: A dark haired, tall man, with a roundish face and short hair. Because of his job, he often wears suits or other business wear, especially when visiting the Fae, but outside of it he tends to dress incredibly lazily (think Koiwai). Always carries a cell phone with him, while eschewing any kind of gun or protective device, because by having one you invite conflict, in his eyes.
• BRIEF DESCRIPTION: Somewhat uptight and stiff when on duty, Jarret dislikes the Fae for having messed with the world so badly. As such, he finds it ironic at best and an insult at worst that he's been assigned to help deal with the problem of integrating them into the population and keeping conflict from starting up between the humans and them. Despite this, he has certain standards, and hates when people trying to use violence to solve the problem, and he especially dislikes the Fantastic Racism starting between the humans, the fae, and the different groups within them.

Oh, shoot. I forgot to think up a character for myself.

Could I possibly make a second character? A sort of darker Trickster Archetype person trying to instigate the conflict?

Or should someone else do that?

APPEARANCE: A rather eccentric looking man, Mudo is one of three OCs I intend to introduce. Mudo wears a blue and green striped t-shirt, a red vest, purple pants, a cowboy hat, orange gloves, and sandals. He seems to carry a katana at his waist. BRIEF DESCRIPTION: An odd man who is often seen near incidents involving the Fey, he belongs to an odd organization called the Organization in the Shadows. This organization is, while evil, more or less Lawful Evil and a group of Well-Intentioned Extremist types. Mudo is the exception. He is a torture fanatic, a Cloud Cuckoolander, and a complete and utter psychopath. A Complete Monster, Mudo enjoys torturing the Fey for "killing him once." He is obsessed with power, so as that he can never die again. He was brought back once by the Shadow Org, and its hinted that this was a one time deal that got him his special abilities, including: controlling big orbs that can shear off your flesh, blue lightning, and enhanced reflexes and agility.

Also, what culture is that name from?

I guess he's from the futures version of the KKK. I can't think what trope that is off the top of my head though.

APPEARANCE: And older man with graying hair and putting on weight.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION: Grew into adulthood during the war against the monsters and fought alongside his fellow humans and the Fey. He wishes for peace between the two sides based on mutual understanding and compromise and to this effort has built and headed the first intergrated school for all species. His efforts have given way to some success though still stifled by the prejudices and biological differences his staff and students face. He is a spokesperson for equality and tolerance which makes him loved or hated.

Mudo is a dangerous mix between a Cloud Cuckoolander of Osaka's level, a Torture Technician, and a Psycho for Hire. He is also absolutely obsessed with power.

and yeah, Fantastic Racism to a terrifying degree.

• SPECIES: Humanoid Abomination

• OCCUPATION: Inspecting Officer of the Special Projects Division of the Shadow Org.
• APPEARANCE: A handsome man with black hair cut in a buzzcut, he has green eyes that seem somewhat unfeeling. He is still very fit, but frequent drinking has resulted in a small belly. Do not underestimate this man's speed, though. He usually wears a simple hakama, pants, and sandals. He carries a bladed staff on his back that amplifies his abilities
• BRIEF DESCRIPTION: Makoto started life blandly...and was miserable. His younger brother, Keiichi, was selected as the clan heir, while the Aloof Older Brother was cast out following a disastrous meeting with Mudo. Now a powerful man, and a leader amongst the ranks of the Ura, he is held in high regard by the "Youth Division". Makoto is distinctly a Well-Intentioned Extremist, and is not really all that evil, although he is a Manipulative Bastard. Due to contact with a Fey spirit of light, he has become "something more than human", his abilities deal with light barriers, which can come together to form large spears, shields, or can be collapsed on foes to eradicate them.

He has shown dislike for the extremism of the Shadow Organization, but maintains that it means well.

Was anything of this shadow division established by Schol beforehand...? It seems odd to turn what was looking like a Mundane Fantastic Urban Fantasy story into a Save the World from an Ancient Conspiracy (kinda) one... Although I'll go with whatever happens.

Edit: Good gods, all of those potholes were real? That's a first.

the Shadow Org was recently developed and created, subverting and outright denying Ancient Conspiracy. The Kagemoto Brothers, while enemies, did a very good job organizing it while they were working together.

They are not trying to take over the world, rather, trying to save it from the Fey, who they think are evil. A popular Alternate Character Interpretation could be that they are simply a callous instance of Good Is Not Nice.

I am just fleshing out the story.

Ah, alright then.

... I pity my guy. He's essentially a glorified customs/immigration/census worker.

yeah, he might come into conflict with Shadow Org, mainly because, while they talk of supporting the governments, nobody knows much about them other than Sensui and Sousui Kagemoto founded it, it tanked and failed in terms of money and dropped off the map. Well, that is what was reported anyway.

I'm about to write a Fey, the problem is finding a good monster or mythological for her to be.

I'm picking from the usual vampire, werewolf, fairy mold while also researching for some other more obscure monsters.

yeah, we need some Fey to fight against the Shadow Organization, and some extremist Fey to make some Evil vs. Evil action.

Is this a combat RP...? I wasn't aware.

Maybe a Spirit Of Place, or something? Spirits of Place being a kind of mythological creature that inhabits objects and personifies it. You're supposed to leave out bowls of honeyed milk for them, which generally just caused a drastic increase in the number of cats.

It wont be combat until you guys make it combat. And that depends on your actions.

Nick: I missed that last line in your first character discription. Humans cannot have any special powers. You have to play them in all their glorified mundaness.

NAME: Koth SPECIES:Minotaur SEX: Male AGE: 43 OCCUPATION: Bounty Hunter, Ex-Canadian/fey black-ops. APPEARANCE: Koth Stands about 8'3", his shoulder's are broad and wide but not as wide as his 3 foot long 2 feet up horns. His left eye is a lighter shade than his left but both are shades of red. the fur is dirty blond. He is built as big as minotaurs come, He has layers of muscle that work like a bullet proof vest. His hoof's are gray-ish black, and his teeth are sharpened. He wears a small vest with a few smoke bombs on it, and set of baggy cargo pants. On each side is a semi-automatic gun, and a set of three eleven inch knifes.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION:

Koth doesn't remember much of his childhood, what of it he can remember he says is a Haze of blood. At age 16 he began to show promise with human weapons, while training in the forests of Canada a hunter found him and began to teach him proper gun work, In turn for him helping the hunter find his way back home when he was lost. After a few years he told him about a government agency which was looking for Fey to do missions for them, knowing Koth was to skilled to live a simple hunter's life. After years of training several missions and scars later, he branched out and began to hunt down criminals for pay.

Koth is cool headed off the battle field, and hot headed on it. He often he lost in the rush of the hunt, but when not "hunting" he is very stoic and silent. Usually letting actions speak louder than his words.

Often employed on missions that require he hunt through forests , or urban cities. As a minotaur his is easy for him, he is also often employed on stealth missions despite his size, though if stealth fails he's not against kick in the door tactics. On the issue of fey/human relations as long as the person asking is okay with him he could care less about others.

alright, I made it so, ironically, he had contact with a Fey of "holy"/light origin. This same Fey is going to be involved with how Sensui and Sousui gained their abilities, though its in a horrific way that involved eating said Fey.

I think you may be missing a bit of Schol's point- Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't he saying that you're not supposed to have any powers? Even gained ones? I don't know.

An idea would be to have them work in two-man pairs, one Fey and one Human, with the Human getting them into places, investisgatig and basically being the 'Face', while the Fey provides backup and support as needed.

Screw that, I'm taking that for some kind of Integrated Police Force...

yeah, the Shadow Org is basically that, but more like a global State Sec. They have authority to deal with the Fey, they have a million and one different names in different countries, and have skeletons lined up in their closet. That Fey the brothers ate was massive, what would they do with the rest of the God's corpse?
