So let's move into the wonderful world of House Rules. What would be the knock-on effects of doubling health levels, apart from fights taking longer?

Speaking of Keychain, is that a Secret avatar that I spot?

(Heh. My first Exalted character was Jalith from the Dawn book with a few alterations. My second was basically Marena.)

^^ With the amount of damage any half competently built Exalt can spit out with a combo and an artefact weapon? Piss all. A better solution is possibly screwing around with soak and hardness rules to make PDs something you only need in a real emergency rather than all the time. The "perfect or die" problem isn't something that can be house ruled away really. The sheer amount of charms that have to be accounted for makes combat and charm balance incredibly complex, and all of that work is based on the assumption that PDs are cheap and plentiful for any important combat character. Its only only going away if Exalted gets rebuilt from the ground up, probably without the storyteller system in place.

I was going over the Infernal charms this morning. Should I have had ideas for an Adorjan/Malfeas Charm that creates a cloud of radioactive dust blowing on a hellish wind?

Yes. Make it spread Green Sun Wasting.

Well, that was where the idea came from, yes. However, on reflection I think desolation-bringing radioactive disease dust fits better with Cecelynian Charms, instead of the very melee-focused Adorjan.

Charm structure:

Dune-Burst Onslaught + Sun-Salted Fields, or DBO + Cold Fire Desolation Brand + Kissed By Hellish Noon = Wasting Dust Cloud, allowing you to produce bursts of radioactive sand. (Edit: This would have to be a Permanent charm that enhances Sandstrike Blast, since a Blast and Nimbus Flare combo would already have that effect by this stage.)

Wasting Dust Cloud + Soul-Sand Devil Shintai = I Am Become Death, a Permanent charm that transforms you into a bringer of plague dust. Later purchases at higher Essence upgrade the disease you bring to Final Viridescence.

Because this thread seems to have been left to rot until such time as the Ink Monkeys come up with something new and awesome, or the Broken-Winged Crane Infernal overflow book is published with DEMON EMPEROR SHINTAI, I'd just like to post a couple of things.

Firstly, some things I originally posted on rpg.net, the instruments of Autochthonia and their symbolism.

  • Piston drum. Related to the element of metal, this is nothing like drums as the peoples of Creation view them. The piston drum is, as its name suggests, a row of harsh mechanical pistons, and the patterns in which they strike are carefully designed for each specific instrument. In the music of Autochthonia, the piston drum represents submission to the will of the Divine Ministers and the Great Maker.
  • Anbaric mandolin. Symbolising lightning, the anbaric mandolin is a steel frame resembling one of Creation's mandolins, with wires instead of catgut strings. The core of each wire contains a minute amount of orichalcum, mere shavings, humming with the barely controlled power of lightning. The discordant snarl of the anbaric mandolin represents anarchy, but also the controlled chaos that is the sole domain of the Champions.
  • Diamond pillar. Another percussion instrument, the gemstone pillar is a crystalline structure that rings with a clear pure note when struck with a specially tuned adamant rod. The clarity of the diamond pillar's song represents the unity of Autochthonian culture, and the emotionless logic of the machine and high-Clarity Alchemicals.
  • Ventsinger. A variation on the steam calliope, the ventsinger is unusual because of the design of its pipes. Instead of the loud whistles of the calliope, the sound of the steam is carefully sculpted by the intricate designs in the pipe to mimic the polyphony of a choir singing in Old Realm. Since, unlike most Autochthonian instruments, this is tuned to sound human instead of mechanical, it represents the human element - but the music can also sound ominous if played correctly.
  • Gate resonator. This instrument is extremely difficult to play. Unlike most instruments, the sound is selected by means of an intricate system of logic gates, through which oil flows to produce the sound. As the oil runs through the pipes at the end of the tunnel, it produces deep, harmonic notes. The resonator symbolises the difficulty of the path all Autochthonians must walk to keep their civilisation running.
  • Voice of Silence. This instrument, representing smoke, is one of the most unusual in Autochthonian music. Constructed largely of soulsteel, it does not produce sound. Instead, it produces a brief yet sonorous silence, overriding all but the most intense sounds. Under most circumstances, this represents death and the Void, but in certain circumstances - such as the earsplitting scream of the anbaric mandolin symbolising chaos - it mirrors the death of those who would threaten Autochthonia. Very few musicians favour the Voice of Silence.

Thanks.

...I'm now tempted to import them into an actual game someday and build an Alchemical Exalted rock band playing some version of Libera Me from hell.

New Ink Monkeys stuff!

  • The Ebon Dragon can now turn things into other things, and make you disturbingly fascinated with him.
  • Adorjan can double-time anything that takes too long, throw you so your tyrant lizard skis try and eat you, and use Pellegrina's Fury to strip any material, not just stone.
  • Cecelyne can make healing impossible for demons and other spirits, help demons not be bound, and inflict difficult taboos on social groups.
  • Malfeas can knock people off their feet, make life really difficult for people using Defend Other, and reignite Magnanimous Warning Glyph brands.
  • SWLIHN can sulk because she didn't get any Charms.

Sorry, the board ate a slash. That was meant to be a pictorial representation of metal.

New Charms: Funness. I'd say more, but I need to go and play with vectors.

Aw, yeah, just bought the rulebook for Solar Exalted.

...And I have nobody to play it with. Damn it, this game looks awesome, but I need to find some guys/girls to form a group.

I'm not sure how Exalted runs over the 'net, but we do have an entire section for forum RP Gs. You could try that. (Hell, I'd join, except that my availability is a bit variable.)

Yeah, but how exactly do you do that? Couldn't somebody just lie about their die rolls (among other forms of cheating)?

Honestly, I have no idea. I suppose part of it is the social contract, but I've seen how badly depending solely upon social contracts works.

Plug for the site I play on:

There are online games here. Not sure what's in the works for new start-ups soon, but it may b worth registering and having a look.

Dice rolls often seem to be taken on trust (social contract and stuff) but many online dicerollers have a lookup feature where they save the roll and someone else can look it up.

Some online Exalted games run on the Open RPG client (http://www.rpgobjects.com/index.php?c=orpg) and have public dicerollers. I've been running a game on it for 2 years now on monday nights.

On the subject of the Ink Monkeys update linked in my post a bit above:

I didn't know Charms could themselves use Charms. I think Corrosive Pattern Infliction used Fervor-Driven Antagonism Technique on me. I keep thinking about new ways to use it. Firedust supply. Bribing guards. What's the Resources value of an iron maiden. Stuff like that.

According to Abyssals, a human body is a Resources 2 item.
