Should we set our characters up already, if possible, if random number generators aren't being used? Should there be more discussion over it yet?

Yeah, go ahead and set up your characters. Being able to see characters will make me more confident as to who's actually playing.

What books can we use?

We're using 3.5 related things. If you have supplements go ahead and use them, but know that I don't have them so you'll need to explain what you're pulling from them.

There are some sites with information that's not in the core books (or thus on d20srd). I won't mention what they are, though—not in public at least!

My character's finished, save for some small backstory details. It's a Neutral Evil Human Sorcerer.

@ Funnyguts: Should I post his stats and stuff, to see what you think?

[down] Alrighty. I won't be on much tomorrow, so I'll try to post it on Saturday.

Time zone: GMT +3 (for summer time, +2 for the switch to winter)

I think that any time on tuesday should be ok, but at the least wednesdays all free for me.

Just need to make a character.

How would we play on IRC then? Is it on this site? I never really used chatrooms much...

So is that outright puppy-raping evil, "would support demons taking over the world" evil, or selfish jackass evil?

IRC channels are hosted on IRC networks. This forum has an unofficial "official" channel, #yackfest, hosted on Espernet. You should be able to join it by clicking the link in my signature.

Since our party is likely to be a mix of goody Heroes For Hire and Neutral Mercenaries, I doubt we will have puppy rapists or anyone taking over the world. Immoral types who only look out for themselves at most. Those types would still gladly accept money for some work, right?

[up]Thanks!

For me, late evenings (eastern time) should be okay. But if it's next week, it MUST be after election day (tuesday).

And my character is going to be a chaotic good rogue, if we're not all doing halfling bards.

Funnyguts: Okay. I'm thinking of playing a swordsage, or maybe a crusader if we need someone to take hits and dish out heals (which it looks like we might, actually). Sending you a PM with some totally legal information about this.

Also, what point buy are we using? Or are we rolling for stats?

What system are we using? GMH gave me a copy of BESM, but I'm rather new to this and don't know much about which system to use. The only system I know in any detail is FATAL, and I don't think that's an option.

D&D 3.5. What you need to know about it you can find here. Legally, too.

Great. By the way, I'd be interested in trying out this some way down the line. Not any time soon, but it does look interesting.

I considered making a Warlock, but I didn't feel that the features were as interesting.

Also, to answer the evil question, my Sorcerer is evil in the "immoral, crazed necrophiliac" sort of way, if that's okay (if it's not, that's fine). He's harmless to his fellow adventurers, but he could still be considered evil, I think. I'm going to fix him up a bit today.

Since we're doing 3.5, attributes are found by rolling 4d6, and then removing the lowest number so you come up with a number between 3 and 18. Do this six times, and then place the numbers wherever you want so your characters have the right stats for their class.

How can we be sure that no ones cheating, unless it's the DM that decides what the rolls are?

Hwo does the "Point By System" for 3.5ed work? Or should we just have a house rule on how many high and how many low and average stats we have to have? We don't want God-Mode Sue characters with 16-18 on all scores, do we?

Though anyhow. Before we even start maybe we should confirm what who is, and are we going good or evil. I can go both ways really.

Anyhow, I'm still looking over classes, races, skills and everything. Been a bit busy but should have more free time on tuesday.

Imma thinking I would use the character I make now for any later campaigns, so what is a good starting class if I wanted to later make a Magic Knight? Bard that prestiges to an Eldritch Knight sound good, flexible? I'd want to have a decent level of competence and not a be a Master of None.

1) There are dicebots for IRC, although I'm not sure how to implement them.

2) As mentioned, attributes are Honest Die Rolls (kinda) not Point Buy. If you roll all 18s that's fine. (Be honest with the rolls, though.)

3) Don't worry too much about good and evil, we're mostly goofing off for this game. Be as good or evil as you want, and act appropriately when roleplaying with party members of other alignments.

4) Unless there's a prestige class in a supplement, there isn't really any dedicated class for Magic Knight like in 4e. You can try dual classing a bard and sorcerer since they both have Charisma as a key stat.

I'd also need atleast one level on a pure melee class to get the Martial Weapon access to get Eldritch Knight. Unless of course Eldrith Knight sucks, unlike I was given the first impression that it's actually good. Also Bards Arcane Magic casting with light armor sounds good, instead of no armor casting.

Alternatively I could go for Druid or Ranger, I guess... I shoudl look up spells too.

Any suggestions? All are welcome.

One of the most popular combos for a Magic Knight-style character is Paladin/Sorcerer, since CHA improves both Paladin saving throws and Sorcerer spellcasting. If you want to be more Magic Knight-y right out of the gate, though, there's always the Duskblade, which I understand is a pretty solid choice.

I think I'm already convinced by the classes Awesome Mc Cool Name. O.O

The players handbook I found only had a listing of the basic classes, so that's why I was kinda going back and forth.

Wouldn't wearing paladin's armor remove the sorcerer's ability to cast spells?

I kinda want to rework my character into a barbarian or a knight, but I already spent a lot of time making my sorcerer, so I'm not sure. : /

Never mind, I don't have much time, at least not for the moment. Human sorcerer it is.
