Yet Another D&D Game!

Hey guys, the thread in Yack Fest about D&D quizzes spawned the desire to start a game. We'll be using Open RPG, which can be found here. Here's a set of videos on how to make it work.

So far we've worked out that we'll be playing 3.5, and that our first game will be a simple oneshot so that everyone can get the hang of using Open RPG and D&D in general if necessary. We'll do level 1 characters, any alignment as long as you're not too much of an asshole.

We still need to figure out a time. So far we know that next week after next Tuesday would be best, so if you're signing up make sure you list days and times that you absolutely can't play.

Here are the character stats so far: GMH - Nycar Tannik, Chaotic Good Half-Elf Rogue Everest - Jackhart Waver, Neutral Evil Human Sorceror Kuro Fox - Ronan Nightsguard, Neutral Good Human Duskblade Haven - Sir Eames the Sky, Knight of the Open Way, Neutral Good Human Crusader

Click here for the IRC channel we'll be using instead of OpenRPG.

Are we expecting something that's gonna be a single session a few hours long?

Also, people should post time zones. I am in eastern; currently GMT -4 because it's daylight and I'm not sure when the switch is.

Yeah, the first game should only take a few hours.

Anytime will work for me, FYI.

I'm in GMT -4 eastern, as well. So far, no days are out of the question for me, as far as I know.

Caveat: I have to sleep before 1 AM eastern (either daylight or standard, whichever is applicable at the time). Well, I can sleep after it, but I have no guarantees as to whether my parents will give me hell or not.

Also, my dinnertime ends at about 8 PM. A period from 9 till whenever might be fine.

During the afternoon might also work, but it would have to be before 6 PM. Preferably ending at like 5 or 5:30.

I have from 2:30 to whenever for the next two weeks, so 9:00-ish would be ideal, I guess.

I'd quite like to join myself, but as I said, I doubt I'll be able to use Open RPG for the time being. If the session goes well and you decide you want to turn it into something more long term, you can feel free to tell me, as I'll probably be able to join then.

We should probably get a list of players foremost.

Should we also add their character class to the same list, just to have that out of the way?

That's up to you guys. I don't mind if you don't talk about your characters and all end up with halfling bards.

@ Everyone but Funnyguts: Should we all make halfling bards?

I'd like to join in too. Do we have to use the characters we got from the test, or can we make our own?

Oh, as for my time zone it's GMT-7 (US Pacific, or the same time as this board's timestamp).

That's up to you, either one is fine. With one exception: everyone starts at level 1 no matter what the test said.

So, I'm having some difficulties downloading Open RPG for some reason, and the video on how to use it is "taking too long to respond." sad

If this doesn't go well, I might not be able to do this after all.

It's possible we could just do a play-by-post campaign or use our IRC channel for one.

I can go ahead and make a room for us on IRC if that happens. It's easy to set up, and all you will have to do is to join the appropriate channel after joining #yackfest (by clicking the link in my signature).

If it's not a huge problem for you, Funnyguts, I think I'd prefer IRC; I can't seem to get OpenRPG to work even after installing an older version of Python (according to their troubleshooting fora, 2.7 doesn't work with it). Also, the site said to open one file (which didn't work) and the readme said to open another (which didn't exist).

Alright, if we'd prefer IRC we can do that. It will be hard to do flanking and the like....

Okay, if we're doing IRC, then y'all should try getting onto IRC. I should have a link in my signature to the Mibbit webchat site that goes to #yackfest on the Espernet network. I tested it earlier today to make sure it works, and I should be able to see you if you show up.

You can still do flanking and placement, but it'll just take a bit more actively keeping track of things on the GM's part.

FWIW I know that the #tropers community has been running Pathfinder games over IRC (in their own rp channel) for a couple years now.

Are we going to have our own particular channel then? What should we name it?

I was thinking of calling it #yackfest-rp or #yackfest-rpg, actually...

So we have 4 people, maybe five if Random wants in with IRC, and six if Kuro Fox shows up in this thread. That's a good number for a party.

Zakdos, who lives in Spain, has expressed interest on IRC. However, he lives in Spain.

Well, I still need to get more times. Is Spain on GMT? I know there's probably at least an eight hour spread in that case...
