Loved the movie. Might be the best original Sci-Fi movie project since at least the Matrix.
Sex, Drugs, and RationalityThe children started leaving when the fingernails came off.
Saw it as well, great movie, likely going to see it again so I can get some quotes to use when going over the trope page for District 9.
Heck, Neill said if the fans want a sequel, he'll do one. And dammnit I /WANT/ a sequel!
I was the only person in my theater to like it. Some people left about 15 minutes in and one guy tried to riff on it several times...very loudly.
Other than that though I find it to be the best movie released this summer. Though I'm not too sure if I'd see the sequal. Something about the ending that just kind of didn't give it enough of a sequal hook for me.
Well the sequel would presumably be about Christopher coming back with reinforcements. The main problem I see is that it would be difficult to do that without just making it a straight action movie.
Anyway, I saw D9 today and it was good, but the Jitter Cam annoyed me.
I guess it is.Film looks cool - Shame the trailers here suck.
INT is knowing a tomato is a fruit. WIS is knowing it doesn't belong in a fruit salad. CHA is convincing people that it does.Good movie. Apparently filmed on a budget of $30 million too. Simply astounding.
I wrote about a fish turning into the moon.Must be good. By midday Saturday the weekend of release the District9 article already had about 50 trope examples. That only happens when people are excited about a thing.

Goal: Clear, Concise and WittyIt's certainly the smartest, most original and most ambitious blockbuster of the summer, but somehow I have difficulty reaching the level of enthusiasm most had. The documentary conceit is impossibly distracting — I was stuck always trying to figure out who was filming this and how; it's an excuse for the film to tell instead of show. It also grants the movie its own original style and texture and certainly helps it keep a brisk pace, but it comes at a price. It also worked a few too many cliches for my personal taste. I think the premise is better than the execution — I wouldn't put on the same level as "Children of Men" or "28 Weeks Later."

@Charlatan: Parallel Porn Titles?
I guess it is.I'd say that the obvious one would be District 69.
"The secret we should never let the gamemasters know is that they don't need any rules." - E. Gary GygaxVery good review. I agree 100 percent.
I thought the movie was gut wrenching, and at the same time very fun.
See It!
I am significantly infuriated by the fact that my motion sickness won't allow me to watch this film for more than thirty minutes on the big screen, and that I will have to wait and shell out thirty bucks for this thing — Every minute I was able to watch was awesome, and my friend who came with assured me that every minute I missed was even more awesome.
I swear to God, when the first time machine is invented, I'm stealing that fucker for the sole purpose of killing the asshole who thought up the jittercam before it happens.
But seriously, this is one of the few movies I've ever seen where jittercam is both justified and tastefully used.

Caved in. Saw it. Was definitely pleased.
Astounding considering the $30,000,000 budget and unknown cast. I'm glad Blomkamp got to do this instead of the Halo movie.
Worth noting that Blomkamp himself was born in South Africa.
Documentary part was interesting but I think the film only got to show off its best stuff once it moved into the movie proper.
I'm looking forward to watching this one. Would have watched it today, but Coraline was only just released in Australia* and there were only screenings today, whereas District 9 uses no facncy-pants 3D polarised lens stuff and thus has screenings available tomorrow.
EDIT: Fuckin' fabulous! That Moviebob review won't load for some reason. Did Yahtzee just put out a new ZP or something?
*Some movie studios seem to have a grudge against my country. Dreamworks always manages to realease here at the same time as America. Watchmen actually opened here before anyone else, but it seems kids movies in particular just seem to get arbitrarily shelved for 6 months. I guess they figure Tweens lack either the aptitude or motivation to use Bittorrent. Seeing it in 3D was fucking awesome though.

Again with the data mining, dear Aunt?Oh, before I forget, PIG CANNON.
Oh, and all the movies shown in the previews were So Bad, It's Good. Final Destination? People near me were laughing. {Saw} 6? ...Wait. No reaction from that. Legion? Laughs. Especially with MUTANT NINJA GRANNY.
...Yeah, with competition like that I can see how District 9 hit it so big.
Some of the movies in my previews looked alright. Like Shutter Island and 9. I might see Legion too, though I'm not expecting much.
"I can't imagine what Hell will have in store, but I know when I'm there, I won't wander anymore."Everyone with an opinion I respect has said 'Watch this movie'. My only fear is that I'm going in with my expectations too high.
