You guys were right about it being rushed. Still very good though. Perfect ending.

The thing I really liked was when Romona's bag got cut and all her baggage was thrown into the open and left behind. I'm still unsure if it counts as nicely executed symbolism or just a Visual Pun (not to say the two are exclusive).

I just read the entire series for the first time tonight in a marathon read. I haven't digested it all yet but so far my only disappointment is that after the opening of volume 4 there weren't any more sections with color. I mean, if those last few pages had been colored, it'd have been amazing. Also, the amount of blood in the last volume was incredibly jarring. But I'm just nitpicking here.

Oh, and the last volume has an endorsement from Joss Whedon on the back.

...I think that statement speaks for itself.

Needs a new signature.

Does The HOLY CRAP impalement of Scott count as a Technicolor Death?

Well..that was DAMN satisfying. It kind of felt like it didn't have the same amount of little character moments that make the series so great, but it was still a very good conclusion to the series.

Can the movie come out now please?

I just ordered volume 1 off of amazon, it was cheap and the series seems to be fairly popular, I figured what the hell.

Question: Does the recurrence of the phrase "It just takes practice" in Book 6 count as a Meaningful Echo or is it Arc Words?

I think every volume has it's set of arc words, for example, "if your life had a face, i would punch it".

Though maybe they're more like running gags.

Just read it. Good stuff, if a bit underwhelming.

Steven's comment that he figured out he was gay in volume five but didn't mention it because there was so much other stuff going on was pure gold, though.

I don't know why, but to me, the funniest lines of the volume were Joseph reacting to Scott.

I actually thought the finale of the movie was better than the finale of the book. But you can't get rid of the first half. That was great.

Do keep in mind that it's probably worse then the books in every way, but still pretty good.

I think I'm on volume 3 or 4, and I'm not sure what to think about it. I really wanna like it, it's funny. And I like the characters, along with the general premise. I also like the whole idea of the world operating similarly to old-school video games...but it doesn't, most of the time. When Scott pulls off that combo at the end of the first book, it was incredibly jarring, compared to what had been going on before. It gets a little better in the later books, but it still feels outta place most of the time. (Although I will admit that the fights themselves are awesome. And the 1up cracks me up.)

I am looking forward to seeing the movie, since it seems like it might fix that problem.

"Steven's comment that he figured out he was gay in volume five but didn't mention it because there was so much other stuff going on was pure gold, though."

Actually, he didn't mention it to scott specifically because he had so much stuff going on. There's some foreshadowing to it when Young Neil calls him Captain Homo in volume 5 in relation to Knives being so attached to him when he's speaking to Ramona. It's just the little bits like that that I loved about this series.

Yeah the Captain Homo line is amazing, though it makes Neil a complete and total asshole. He's kind of like the anti-Scott in that respect, going from nice kid to total dick.

I would have liked to see Steven Stills and Knives go beyond just a Ship Tease. They actually looked cute together, in a Is That Cute Kid Yours? kinda way.

Hey guys, I finally bought - and read - the first volume of the series and... ... wait, there's 6 volumes? Ooooooh crap.

Well, it's in German, and the translation really shows just how lacking our country seems to be in translators who know jack about American youth culture.

Glaring mistakes:

1) Translating "Morph Ball" as "morphender Ball". If the term was translated in the German versions of the games, which I doubt, it's not THAT. Come on, Mr. Translator, that would've taken ten seconds on Google!

2) Translating "sweet" as "süß". Normally correct, except this was an exclamation, not an adjective relating to taste!

3) Either I'm far behind on my German slang, or Translator-san tried a daring move by loan-translating the word "sucker" (using the "lollipop" definition)... or he seriously didn't know the term, in which case, holy balls.

I love the character development in this series. Both Scott and Ramona do some pretty fuckbend worthy things. The only thing I like more than fucked up characters is fucked up characters that can learn through their mistakes and their past.
