Good evening sir, a spot of mushroom wine to calm the palate? Perhaps a refreshing piece of prisoners honey to sooth you?

Welcome to the game of Echo Bazaar, a tale of Villany and Wickedness set in a london which has been stolen and placed underneath the earth by bats, and has an ambassador to hell staying in luxurious quarters. In short, it is a game of revolution, intrigue, suspense and victorian stereotypes. Its also on facebook, and since I have only just started playing it I think that it might make a rather cool liveblog.

I did not know what to do originally, so I have already started playing it but I thought it might be rather fun to have you guys helping me along the way as my character makes his way through this nightmarish copy of london.

To start I should introduce some of the things that he has about him (though if you want to find him, all you have to do is search for "robert Weedall" on the game site himself).

My man has recently escaped from New Newgate Prison, by scratching away at the bars with only several sets of forks and the aid of my mysertious benafactor, and finding himself bereft of lodgings has inveigled his way into the house of a kindly old widow. The property itself is a bit of a mixed bag, it is not too secure, but it is in a good neighbourhood, even IF there are a good deal too many insufferable prayer meetings going on downstairs. (2 card slots, which I will explain later, only)

My current apperal is not the finery to which I am accustomed, merely workmans clothing, which are sufficient to make me not appear as though I have just escaped prison by bouncing off a delivery dirigable. My mysterious benafactor has also sent me a pair of shiny, shiny boots. These boots are in fact so shiny that they have granted me watchfullness beyond what my current abilities should be (+1 watchfullness), my sole companion in my dingy room is a somewhat sulky bat, who I have to take for walks and to allow to fly with his fellows on occasion.

My current misadventures have given me a reputation as an "admirer of beauty" after I managed to seduce a young artists muse through talking delicatly too her and ensuring that I could be considered her paramour. My contacts at the moment are... somewhat less than I would like, my two best are a with two of the most closley linked, the Bohemians and those various spies and individuals who partake in the great game (both at 3). Other than that my contacts take in all areas of society, from the Church and The Society, all the way down to urchins and criminals (all at 2).

(okay, going to wrap this up as its going on way too long, may add more later, but my statistics for solving things are

  • Persuasive: 13
  • Watchful: 14
  • Shadowy: 2
  • Dangerous: 2
So please don't make me fight anyone, it will kill me)

But at the moment my friends I have two items preying most heavily on my mind: The issue of the face-tailor and My recalling of the surface.

I have to decide why I came down here from the surface as one of my old... acquaintaces from there has come looking for me, the three options of whom they could be are:

  • A Client which I helped in the past
  • A Villain which I helped to catch and is back for revenge.
  • Someone who is looking for secret knowledge

The other is my search for the face-tailor, whose name I heard mentioned in one of the few rainy days in the 'neath, and it has led me to observing the stolen river where I have encountered a man float past clutching something in his hand. I can either:

  • Accept the dying mans gift (which is an ugly statuette)
  • March Smartly Away (the genre saavy option, because crap like this NEVER ends well)
  • Chuck it in the river
  • Or wait because Death Is a Slap on the Wrist, though his killer may still be nearby. (this is an ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE challenge to my shadow ability)

It'll be interesting to see some of the new early stuff again.

I'd say choose the "searcher for secret knowledge," since the other two sound like they'll end up giving you Shadowy and Dangerous challenges. And take the statue! What Could Possibly Go Wrong??

It is chosen!

There is now a wife I loved and lost looking for me alongside the man who sent me into this pit to recover knowledge. Such is the unfortunate situation of a charming man. Also apparently my scandal appears to have risen. I mean dash it, can't a chap seduce a wealthy heiress without constantly being worried about her father... Honestly.

The idol I have picked up is scowling... somehow I know this despite its apparent facelessness, and I recognise the gentleman I acquired it from as one of the people I heard speaking in the rain some days ago. It seems the plot may well be thickening.

Alongside this, my various none imperative jobs have gifted me with an ecletic mix of items, at least one relic of the fourth city, several sets of prisoner clothing, a great deal of rostygold, a smattering of jade and some surface currency all clutter my rooms. Perhaps I should try and sell some of it, a new set of gloves would always be useful.
