so dragonflies are dragons?
last.fmLet me apply that in reverse, just because you say it's not, it doesn't make it true.
That is the dumbest analogy ever.
Ugh, I give up. If you listen to metal at all you know that nu-metal =/= metal.
last.fmNo, nu metal uses metal sounds, guitar, drums, and vocals. It is metal in its core. Only angry fanboys say it's not metal (rather than an arguably mediocre iteration of it), because it's in between metal fans to hate everything that achieves mainstream success after the 80s.
What is your evidence anyways? I would be interested in seeing a metalhead defend nu-metal as a legitimate subgenre.
Metal influence does not make a band metal.

As already stated before, the sounds, guitars, vocals and drums of new metal are metal on their core. Furthermore, several metal artists such as Dee Snider (from Twisted Sister) have acknowledged nu metal. On what grounds do you accuse it of not being metal?
It's not metal influences, it's metal sound, there's pletny of different genres that sound very different from each other and are still metal. Symphonic metal and doom metal have almost nothing to do with each other... except for the metal core they share.

down-tuned rock riffs are not metal riffs.
last.fmDispensing with the argument over whether or not nu-metal is 'metal' enough, the original point I made was that someone who listens to nu-metal extensively should not call themselves a "massive metalhead". To me, "massive metalhead" implies someone who has at the very least explored most of the major subgenres of metal and heard a lot of the classics.
I would HOPE that anyone who has listened to the likes of Black Sabbath, Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Death, Slayer, Metallica, Bathory, Motorhead, Dio, Morbid Angel, Possessed, Carcass, Type O Negative, Mayhem, Deicide, Atheist, Dissection, or Blind Guardian (to name a few) would NOT say:
Because, quite frankly, if you prefer Korn to Iron Maiden, your taste in metal sucks.
So, you're saying that nu-metal in general uses that kind of riff, and that metal (the whole of it) doesn't? That's some heavy claim, I hope you have heavy evidence.
Fair enough. It seems we had some misunderstanding regarding our definitions of metalhead. Going by yours, we could not, indeed, consider him (her?) a metalhead: regardless of personal opinion about the artistic quality of those bands, it's clear that they are inferior in terms of "metalness" (which is not a word, but should be), meaning that he (she?) doesn't have enough knowledge about metal to be a proper "metalhead".
On the other hand, not having heard "enough" metal means he didn't have to sit through an entire album of Cannibal Corpse, so I would say it has it's advantages.
By the way, sorry for the namecalling, it was uncalled for, but some metal fans can be really dense.

After seeing how many renditions of its music have shown up as metal mixes on Overclocked Remix I have concluded that Castlevania is so metal it hurts.
In before "Lance you're no metalhead"
I really like Power, symphonic and progressive metal. Listen to some Epica, I like all of Sonata Arctica, Kamelot is great, and Blind Guardian is pretty swell. Within Temptaion is antother I like, though I'm not certain if it's "Metal" though. I like BOTH Tarja and Annete for nightwish, I do not understand the Tarja Fanatics. yes, she has a nice voice, but from reading the stuff about her firing, It seems like she's also kinda a real jerk.
"Coffee! Coffeecoffeecoffee! Coffee! Not as strong as Meth-amphetamine, but it lets you keep your teeth!"Don't mention Youtube comments, back holes of intelligence.
last.fmxexyzl, I totally agree. Castlevania is way metal.

I second that statement on the stupidity of Youtube comments.
Also, it seems that Metal is the most popular genre of music that I know nothing about.
I'm not really much of a metal fan... I tend more towards prog rock and that sort of thing. I just like epic metal remixes of videogame music, mostly. And Heavy Mithril. So Yeah.
Youtube seems to be a very large cesspool of stupidity,
"Coffee! Coffeecoffeecoffee! Coffee! Not as strong as Meth-amphetamine, but it lets you keep your teeth!"Youtube contains every type of wacko and idiot imaginable.
Political wingnuts, Religious Fundies (and obnoxious atheists), Conspiracy theorists, Racists...
Am I forgetting anything?

Rabid fanboys. And fangirls, I suppose.

"Coffee! Coffeecoffeecoffee! Coffee! Not as strong as Meth-amphetamine, but it lets you keep your teeth!"How on earth did I forget fanboys/girls?
I remember one comment, in particular, on a "Sweeney Todd" video. The one with George Hearn singing "Epiphany."
One person made a comment saying "It isn't supposed to be opera!" Anyone who knows anything about the history of that show has a huge head-desk.
Anyway, back on topic...
So, can anyone recommend me any metal? Preferably in the form of Youtube videos? I like to consider myself someone who knows alot about music, but this is one genre I'm completely clueless about.
I'd like to recitfy my statement. "emerging metalhead." There.
Nu-Metal is like a child of metal. In the same family at least. And at least I didn't say E-Town Concrete
<(-_-<)(>-_-)> "FUSION HA"
Just because Wikipedia says it is doesn't make it true.
The same goes for Metal Archives, I might add, though personally I think they are justified in excluding nu-metal.
