OMG NO NOSECONES
#26: Nov 3rd 2010 at 1:55:44 AM

Greetings - wondering if the following would make an interesting addition to the party:

Name: Fenris Smith Age: 57 (looks to be in his late twenties) Race: Human-Elf mix, looks Human Class: Armor smith, formerly a weapon smith and blacksmith

Skill Level(s): Quite proficient in general blade crafting, and arrow-making, but currently involved in the crafting of armors and other protective items, in which he is locally renowned for. Prefers to craft plate armors over mail, as he likes to decorate. Occasionally does large orders for the local militias, but he can rush them as fine details aren't as important. Skilled in holistic first-aid (incidental cuts and stuff from his trade) and learned how to defeat simple locks and such when he was younger - and he's locked himself out of his shop enough times. Also very proficient at haggling, barter, commerce and basic blacksmithing, the foundation of working with hot metal. He has basic proficiency in using a weapon for self-defense, the outgrowth of a spot of organized criminal activity in his quarter of town years ago which he helped... clean up, but he's no prize-winning swordsman. Adequate would be a good word for his use of a blade. He is also good at reading other people, which helped him establish himself as a businessman in the area. Naturally, can read and write.

Weapons: Usually packs a Short Sword of his own crafting, as well as a matching broadsword when he has to go out of town. Also has a dagger with the same general stying elements as the short sword and broadsword, but he uses the dagger more as a tool than as a weapon. All are finely balanced, sharp and well-cared for, but are otherwise simple normal weapons - just nicely-made.

Merridium weapon: Dreams of getting the alloy in order to make quality tools for armor-smithing, in the hopes that it would enable him to become a master of his trade.

Bio: Fenris is the offspring of an elven mother and a human father, and raised by his paternal family in Solamnia. He was brought up in the trade of weaponsmithing at an early age, helping his father and full-human half-siblings running the family business. When he was thirty, he struck out on his own and has been running his own shop for some time. he is jovial, good-tempered, and a fair haggler of goods. He has mixed feelings towards elves in general, due to infrequent contact with his maternal family.

Appearance: Fenris appears to be of pure human stock, as most of his elven genes are relegated to lifespan, agility and general senses. Speaks with the accent of his father and uncles. A bit taller than average, lean and clean-shaved (can't grow facial hair to save his life), with dark brown hair in a short cut. Has a nice complexion due to his elven lineage, but it also be due to him bathing regularly. Usually wears tailored clothes in the city, but wears a simple mail long shirt for protection (that he bought - he's not happy with his mail-making skill) when out on some errand that takes him out of the city limits, and a travelling cloak.

I envision Fenris being useful for non-combat roles - perhaps the other PC's avoid a spot of trouble by him fast-talking the city guard or something, that or he just happens to be going in the same direction they are and strikes up conversation when the group is ambushed...? Wouldn't want to take charge of the group, but act more as an advisor in non-combat activities, offering his wisdom (sometimes unwanted) to anyone who will listen. His merchant contacts may enable him to gain a favorable rate at some roadside inn for the party, or a special connection allows the party to seek refuge at some other merchant's residence. At least, initially. Once outside his area of travelling and out of his realm of experience, Fenris will have to prove his worth in combat-related tasks (or just staying out of the way), or risk becoming The Load. May not get along with Elven characters initially, but is also curious about them. Might be caught observing them, and have to make up something on the spot about it.

So... GM and other players, cool?

  • Name: Caelyn Alanir
  • Age: 21
  • Race: Elf
  • Class: Druid
  • Skill Level(description): Decent in defensive and nature-related magic, mediocre in offensive magic. Capable of using his staff as a weapon if, for whatever reason, he can’t use his magic, but pretty much useless using swords or in hand-to-hand combat.
  • Weapons: A staff
  • Merridium weapon: A radiant staff with intricate markings / patterns on it and emeralds on both ends. Emits a powerful magical force, supposedly has a strong connection to nature. Also, you wouldn’t want to get hit in the head with it.
  • Bio: Caelyn never knew his true parents. To him, his family was the small group of nomads that had taken him in. Growing up, he had no permanent home, him and his clan moving elsewhere before they had a chance to get comfortable, living amongst the wilderness, only venturing into any major cities to do odd jobs to pay for whatever they needed. Luckily for Caelyn, he loved every minute of it. Being surrounded by people of various classes (mostly druids, wizards and rangers), he received an adequate amount of training, although the only times he ever used what he learned were against particularly hostile monsters and bandits. While he cared for his fellow travelers and appreciated everything they had done for him, he believed he was destined to go out on his own, exploring the world and honing skills. He left at the age of 17.
  • Appearance: Short, somewhat thin, green eyes, short brown hair, soft features wears a long brown robe with green accents

Is this good? Sorry if I made any mistakes (I shouldn't even be up right now tongue).

I like them both, especially the blacksmith. Not often you find people like us willing to play a non-combat focused role. Welcome aboard, you two, post whenever you like.

Is Pristine also accepted or should I modify something?

Name: Worthe Forrest

Age: 24

Race: Human

Class: Knight

Skill Level: Masterful in one handed swords with shield-wielding. Proficient in two-handed sword and hand-to-hand combat. He possesses great arm strength due to him lugging a shield around for years. He has a vast amount of useless skills, such as cleaning, cooking, and knitting due to him helping others for his entire life. He has basic survival skills.

Weapons: A sword and a very large shield.

Merridium weapon: A large shield which could defend against a god and his army without ever breaking or chipping.

Bio: Growing up in a strict house, he is very loyal and trustworthy. Being strictly taught by his father in his father’s estate his whole childhood, he is oblivious to many things in the outside world. His own "Knight's Code" is to defend the people who can't defend themselves. He is obsessed with helping people and hates people who take advantage of others. He is an idiot who doesn't know the value of money and carries a lot on him, never spending it until it was stolen. He hunts his own food and finds his own lodging every day (usually under a tree using his shield as a “blanket” of sorts). He is very curious about other races and constantly is amazed every time he sees a member of a race that is not human. Due to him jumping at every opportunity to help somebody, he is far from home and found himself at a different place in the continent. He currently has no armor as he gave it to some thieves asking for money (which he gave proudly because they said “please”). They could not carry the shield and the sword was of poor quality which is why he still has them.

Appearance: At the moment, he is dressed in poor, ragged clothes but has a large shield strapped to his back and a simple sword at his side. He is at above average height with dark brown hair which could be mistaken as black and has deep crimson eyes, a trait proudly held by his family. Kinda like this when fully equipped, just color of the hair and eyes.
