The reason is that before Scott Pilgrim, Michael Cera only played one character: Wimpy, awkward loser who was the straight man to someone goofy.
I've got two guns pointed west and a broken compass.So...does that fit Scott's character in this movie? If yes...then yeah that's a pretty good casting choice...if no...then can you blame an actor for trying something new for once?
Still don't understand the hate he gets, people actually blame him for this movie's box office failure! What, is Scott supposed to be asian and Micael Cera is white?

"Every opinion that isn't mine is subjected to Your Mileage May Vary."People hate him because he tends to only play that character I described, and it's annoying.
Scott is a loser, but he's a confident, funny loser, and Cera did a good job of portraying that. Most people assumed it would be "another Cera role".
I've got two guns pointed west and a broken compass.I don't get it either. Yes, he normally plays an awkward geeky kid (can you blame him? He doesn't exctly have the look for anything else.), but he's not a bad actor.
We're going to spread this shit like Nutella. He was great in Arrested Development, but then he played the same character for everything and he just got annoying. He was amazing in Scott Pilgrim though, which made me like him again.
Rawr!So people hate him for being good at his role?...wow, damn. Kinda feel sorry for him, and from what little I've read, the main character in the film actually fits the type of character Michael woulda been good at.
I woulda had much more interest in this film is The World in the title was referring to Dio Brando's stand. Can you just imagine it?

"Every opinion that isn't mine is subjected to Your Mileage May Vary."People hate him because he can't play any other role.
More Buscemi at http://forum.reelsociety.com/...but is that enough to warrant so many people HATING him though? Hate is a powerful word.
"Every opinion that isn't mine is subjected to Your Mileage May Vary."So, people hate him because he's Type Casted?
...Yeah, I'm with the TC in not getting the hate.

I'd like to say I agree with the hate being silly, but the truth is something about Cera rubs me the wrong way. I find his voice annoying, his demeanor annoying, and...I just really don't like Adorkable Nice Guys for some reason. Sorry, but I really can't explain it better than that.
But for what it's worth, it seems he did well in Scott Pilgrim.
I hate him because he has a perpetual deer in the headlights look and puts little to no effort in his acting.
That being said, Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World redeemed him in my eyes.
ALL CREATURE WILL DIE AND ALL THE THINGS WILL BE BROKEN. THAT'S THE LAW OF SAMURAI.Signed, I think this is one of those things you can't really understand unless you've seen it. Michael Cera isn't a standard Hollywood type; watch one of his films and either you'll like it, like I do, or you won't, like the people who said he ruined Scott Pilgrim Vs The World.
Not having seen Scott Pilgrim (Though I'll probably rent it), I can't comment on Cera's performance there. For the man in general however, I can say that I've just personally never cared for awkward humor. I know it amuses some people to see socially inept characters, but damned if I understand why. Michael Cera tends to be the epitome of this sort humor.
I think its a bit rich of people to be so hatefully against Cera always playing the same type of role, so instead they go see Stallone playing a musclebound soldier, or Julia Roberts playing an independent woman looking for love.
Do you want to have sex? I think we should have sex. CASUAL SEX.This.
You can't help but have some contempt for characters that are meant to be an obvious parody of you and hit a bit too close to home. I've been compared to Shia Lebouf in both Transformers and Indiana Jones by my parents, and it doesn't help I'd taken to wearing a (fake) leather jacket at the time.
I second English Ivy's sentiment.
And I do feel the same about Shia Lebouf. An actor with no effort who refuses to do anything different with his acting.
When All Else Fails, you have fun and flirt wit da ladies, dats da Drawings way!I thought Cera was really good in Scott Pilgrim. But that's just me.
Estimated shipping time: 2-4 weeks.^^ See, I'm not willing to say that, neccessarily... I find it more probable they just can't get work in other roles.
Okay, you could possibly be right. I mean, Shia Le Bouf was totally different in Even Stevens. Then he suddenly decided to limit his palette.
When All Else Fails, you have fun and flirt wit da ladies, dats da Drawings way!^^^^^Oh, that's nothing. Upon my family and friends seeing Napoleon Dynamite, I got SO MANY COMPARISONS to the way he acts that I REALLY hated the movie. When they died down, then I finally started enjoying the movie.
Long live Cinematech. FC:0259-0435-4987That said, I thought he was good in Youth In Revolt. He did the badass personality well.
We're going to spread this shit like Nutella.So...is the movie he stars in any good? When I first saw a poster, I thought it was some sort of highschool musical or rockband movie...so I completely ignored it.
Then I saw the hype around the movie in the internet, and discovered that it was based on some OEL manga or something...which didn't quite catch my attention either...

"Every opinion that isn't mine is subjected to Your Mileage May Vary."I'll put it this way. WATCH. THIS. TRAILER!
It looks like your typical Romantic Comedy at first...then the AWESOME starts at around 0:55.
I don't know squat about Scott Pilgrim Vs The World (I hope that potholes...), all I know is that it's some movie based on some OEL manga or whatever, and it's quite popular in the internet crowd, but did dismally in the box office for whatever reason...
I didn't even know about this movie until I heard how bad it did in the box office, and when I looked into it, a lot of people blamed the movie's failure on Michael Cera, the guy who played Scott...apparently notable number of people hated this guy with a passion even before the movie came out...when I looked him up, he didn't resemble a pretty boy, which tends to be the one and only reason why most people hate male actors and stars...so...what's the deal with this guy anyways? Me? Never heard of him, don't like him, nor do I hate him. Wikipedia is useless in explaining this. The one and only reason people (mostly men) hate male actors is if they are too good looking (insecurity much?), and this guy is the last thing that'd come to mind if you think attractive.
The only other actor I've seen this much hate from would be...Mel Gibson...and that's because of all the stuff that's happened around him. The guy who played Scott? Never heard of him before, never heard of the movie before, never heard of the OEL manga/comic/whatever it was based on before.
