So, I'm not that familiar with every single procedure and guideline and policies here, so I figure I better ask before doing something stupid: - when there is different page for a work and its better known adaptation(s), which one should be on the Main namespace? Because I want to make a work page for The Mask comic-book, but I don't know if I should move the film info to Film/The Mask (cause the comic came first) or send the comic info on Comicbook/The Mask (or should it be Series/ The Mask).

I went on the lookout for something similar, and I saw that the Wanted movie was main and the comic was on the comicbook. Is that the right way to go?

Whichever is more famous and more likely to be searched for gets the main.

Okay, so that means the movie in both case. I still wonder - should I put the new page in Series/The Mask or Comicbook/The Mask?

No, no. Put the thing in the medium namespace that applies. Put the Film in Film. The Series in Series, etc..

Ideally, there would no works in Main at all. Main would be semantically identical to 'Tropes'.

Search doesn't care about namespaces. It will find it in any of them.

Okay, but both The Mask (Movie) and Wanted (Movie) are in the Main namespace. Should I change that? And is a comic-book series like The Mask (which was part ongoing, part limited series, part one-shots) should go in Series or Comic Book? I wanna be sure to put it in the right place

Sure, fix em. Be sure to leave a redirect form the old one to the new. Comic Book is where comic books go. They are very frequently (most commonly, in fact) serials.

You could also make a disambiguation page in the Main namespace to link all the related pages together. For an example, see Nikita or Edge Of Darkness.

The issue here is that namespaces are relatively new on the wiki consciousness and a lot of people still don't recognize that works are supposed to go in them. Also, there's a truckload of legacy pages that would need to be moved one at a time. The task is daunting in scope, and could only be measurably eased if Eddie (bless his soul) could gin up an automatic moving tool that would handle copying the related data (history, discussion) and modifying wicks.

This might even be better done as a Tech Wishlist topic so I'll take it there.

Question. Do all the subpages work properly if all the media is moved to the subpages?

[up] Assuming the subpage links back to the work page (either directly or with a tab for its medium), yes.

If the main page isn't used for anything else, it can always be used as a redirect to the most famous one. Obviously, it's better if people only use the namespaces, but that's not realistic to expect with potholing.

@collex: Meeble is right. The best bet is to move the article about the movie to Film. The Mask, put the article about the comics in ComicBook. The Mask, and make Main. The Mask a disambiguation page.
