During the investigation of recent hollers in the Complete Monster thread, it's become apparent to the staff that an insular, unfriendly culture has evolved in the Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard threads that is causing problems.
Specific issues include:
- Overzealous hollers on tropers who come into the threads without being familiar with all the rules and traditions of the tropes. And when they are familiar with said rules and traditions, they get accused (with little evidence) of being ban evaders.
- A few tropers in the thread habitually engage in snotty, impolite mini-modding. There are also regular complaints about excessive, offtopic "socializing" posts.
- Many many thread regulars barely post/edit anywhere else, making the threads look like they are divorced from the rest of TV Tropes.
- Following that, there are often complaints about the threads and their regulars violating wiki rules, such as on indexing, crosswicking, example context and example categorization. Some folks are working on resolving the issues, but...
- Often moderator action against thread regulars leads to a lot of participants suddenly showing up in the moderation threads to protest and speak on their behalf, like a clique.
It is not a super high level problem, but it has been going on for years and we cannot ignore it any longer. There will be a thread in Wiki Talk to discuss the problem; in the meantime there is a moratorium on further Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard example discussion until we have gotten this sorted out.
Update: The new threads have been made and can be found here:
Please see the Frequently Asked Questions and Common Requests List before suggesting any new entries for this trope.
IMPORTANT: To avoid a holler to the mods, please see here for the earliest date a work can be discussed, (usually two weeks from the US release), as well as who's reserved discussion.
When voting, you must specify the candidate(s). No blanket votes (i.e. " to everyone I missed").
No plagiarism: It's fair to source things, but an effortpost must be your own work and not lifted wholesale from another source.
We don't care what other sites think about a character being a Complete Monster. We judge this trope by our own criteria. Repeatedly attempting to bring up other sites will earn a suspension.
What is the Work
Here you briefly describe the work in question and explain any important setting details. Don't assume that everyone is familiar with the work in question.
Who is the Candidate and What have they Done?
This will be the main portion of the Effort Post. Here you list all of the crimes committed by the candidate. For candidates with longer rap sheets, keep the list to their most important and heinous crimes, we don't need to hear about every time they decide to do something minor or petty.
Do they have any Mitigating Factors or Freudian Excuse?
Here you discuss any potential redeeming or sympathetic features the character has, the character's Freudian Excuse if they have one, as well as any other potential mitigating factors like Offscreen Villainy or questions of moral agency. Try to present these as objectively as possible by presenting any evidence that may support or refute the mitigating factors.
Do they meet the Heinousness Standard?
Here you compare the actions of the Candidate to other character actions in the story in order to determine if they stand out or not. Remember that all characters, not just other villains, contribute to the Heinousness Standard
Final Verdict?
Simply state whether or not you think the character counts or not.

Also Wet the correct trope would be Bitch in Sheep's Clothing.
CM Sandboxes, MB Sandboxesto Frankland
Sure to Frankland, and yes to the rewrites.
Okay, I'm kindly requesting that, with the exception of 43's rewrite, no more writeups get added to the Drafts until I clean them out, hopefully later today.
CM Dates; CM Pending; CM DraftsSure. When you do, I'll get mine...there's a lot we need to clear out now
As I have said in the past ACW, I am willing to help with clearing the drafts if needed.
CM Sandboxes, MB SandboxesAppreciated, but I should be able to handle it.
Yeah...how did we get from no pending a few weeks ago to 15-20 now?
BTW, I'm going to ask if we could get the Hardy Boys page launched by Thanksgiving, if not Halloween?
CM Dates; CM Pending; CM Draftsto Spencer and dr Frankland
Junior, Thiago, Crockett, Smaug, Vlad, Donkey, Spencer and Frankland
Frankland. Switching to to Titus.
Titus and Frankland.
And also man is that a huge improvement over the original for Thaddeus. Rewwrite.
"That's right mortal. By channeling my divine rage into power, I have forged a new instrument in which to destroy you."Yes to Frankland, great catch!
Added the Cleekster big W!
Yes to Smaug (strange that a huge release like The Hobbit gets re-evaluated after 8 years...), Frank, The Donkey, uh hey guys
Randomly found this on Villainous Parental Instinct -
- Pan's Labyrinth: Vidal may be a cold-blooded torturer and mass murderer, but he is totally committed to his baby son. It's implied that he only married Carmen because she got pregnant, and he instructs the doctor to let her die if it saves the baby. When he's finally cornered by Mercedes and the rebels at the end, despite being the Determinator up until that point, he gives up relatively easily and calmly hands over the baby to Mercedes, asking her to give him his watch and tell him his Last Words when he grows up. Mercedes refuses.
I haven't seen that movie in years, but Vidal is a poster boy for a CM that Monster.Live Action Films features him as a quote source. Is that trope entry misused?
I've not seen the film, but from what I've heard he cares about his son more as his legacy than anything else.
CM Dates; CM Pending; CM DraftsVidal only cares about the kid as a legacy. He makes that abundantly clear. It's a big point for him
Yes to Bob, tentative yes to Titus.
Feels good, don't it?So... delete the Vidal trope entry for misuse (citing this thread), or leave it?

Maybe make it Heir Club for Men or something?
CM Dates; CM Pending; CM DraftsI think the trope is still valid. What it needs if anything is a small addendum to clarify that he only cares about the kid as a succession of himself, not because he's a Papa Wolf.
...aaaand done. Though the grammar may be a bit iffy since my memory on that movie is somewhat vague
So uh anyone keep in the new Stepford wives I Mean Don't Worry Darling?

"That's right mortal. By channeling my divine rage into power, I have forged a new instrument in which to destroy you."I misread "Instinct" for "Incest" for a second, and was so confused, lol.
But yeah, sounds like it's not true care.
Switched it to Faux Affably Evil to sort it out
I think I have enough votes for the Bellroc image but should I put it in Western Animation or Animated Films? Because that image is from Trollhunters: Rise of the Titans
Alright then

Oh, Mr. Kennedy, you entertain me. To show my appreciation, I will help you awaken from your world of clichés.
