Ok it was mentioned there is not a thread for Law Enforcement Officers (LEO for short)and other similar jobs for discussion.
This is for discussing the actual jobs, ranks, training, culture, relations to military bodies that exist, and any other variety of topics that can arise pertaining to the World of Policing.
The story isn't set in a setting advanced enough for drones. Can FLIR see people in thick canopies too?
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanNot yet, but they're working on it.
A British police trainer is found guilty of gross misconduct after cutting earrings off female recruits.
Sounds like he deliberately (and falsely) made them believe he was using bolt cutters.
One trainee had cuts to her ear as a consequence, but it feels like the bigger issue is the culture and creepy attitude behind this.
It reads like a hazing incident.
"Three were unable to remove their earrings, however, and informed him of the fact."
Ok, I thought I was reasonably familiar with women's jewelry, but maybe I'm wrong. What kind of earring can't be removed?
Police Helicopters are often used for SAR work, and many are now equipped with FLIR units. Omaha, where I live, for example, has Gen 2 FLIR cameras on our Police Helicopters.
Drones are a bit of a mixed bag. You need drones of a specific size to be able to use decent thermal cameras, but if you are going for deep fiction, look to drone swarms that can do rapid grid searches. There are even drones now that can navigate forests on their own.
