Interesting. Wackypædeia says its the first published primarily on the World Wide Web and second published on the Internet. there were a couple published on BBS's like Compuserve before that. So you can accurately call it the first webcomic.
It also looks pretty good, like you say. I must have an archive binge. 520 weeks worth of it! Good thing, as I'm at the end of my latest binge through Something Positive's archive.

Nope, 1993 to 2006 with a couple of hiatuses, looks like.

If I had to think of another webcomic that so brilliantly captured the non-sequitur essence of The Far Side, while adding it's own brand of comic insanity, it would easily be Doctor Fun. It ran from 2003-2006 and was a hilarious one-shot webcomic series created by David Farley, and was one of the first webcomics ever made. You can find a very lovely archive of them here: [1]
