Speaking of almost done writing that third book, it's done now. It's currently in the hands of my beta readers before I shoot it over to my editor after rewriting what they feel needs changing. I'm already outlining book 4 and it feels both weird and amazing to be at the halfway point to my furry book series! :) cool

EDIT: Ayyyy.... happy page topper!

Anyone here heard of Project Fia? It's a Science Fantasy worldbuilding project that I personally find to be quite profound, though maybe I'm reading into it too much. I never knew much about it until I visited its Discord server a few days ago and tried creating my own character. Apparently there are these things called "aspects" which are sort like magical elements? I had some trouble picking them out but I don't think it's that big of a deal since in-universe you can change them later.

Anybody go out this Halloween in their fursuits?

Last time I did that, my head fell off and kids started crying, so no. :P

It was a mascot costume rather than a fursuit though, so it didn't really fit me well enough.

Imagine actually having a fursuit, that would be incredible. Apparently they can cost up to ten thousand dollars!?!? What is up with that! I get that making stuff is hard, but surely it's not that arduous of a process...

It's based on the design of the suit and materials.

Well, when I bought artificial fur to make a plush of my fursona, it only costed around twenty dollars, and it came with a huge amount of surface area. Surely one couldn't just wrap that around their body and call it a day?

"Wrapping it around the body" is a massive oversimplification to the point of being outright incorrect. You're basically making clothing, and that includes taking measurements, creating patterns, sewing, not even getting into things like heads and paws and tails and painting which pretty much require their own similar but distinct sets of skills and equipment depending on how complex you want to go with it.

And that's just if you're going for one of the stock 'furry' species without any clothing or props or accoutrements. Want a Protogen or a Synth? Say hello to plastics and electronics with everything that implies.

[up] Some of those fursuits are genuinely works of art. It's impressive what some can do/make and still be able to function/move inside of them, let alone engage in dance competitions! Last EF, I saw a stage play with actual dance numbers with multiple fursuiters on stage doing complex (for fursuits that is) choreography without bumping into each other, missing their marks or tripping. It was insane! [lol]

I especially admire the amount of work and effort put into Protogen fursuits.

I heavily identify with protogens, so my sona is one, and I want a suit of him so bad! I think about it all the time.

I seen someone in a protogen fur suit once. Impressive but probably even more expensive than a standard fur suit.

Stupid question but when making a fursuit, do you have to have a balaclava or can you start without one?

You don't necessarily have to, but it is recommended.

[up]x4 and x3: Indeed they are. A partial or even the head alone may cost the same amount as a full suit of a more standard species. Kaiborg is the iconic maker everyone knows, and many makers of protogen suits build off of their kits. They charge $3165 base price for just the head. Other makers building off of their kits price them competitively. The only suits in the fandom I know of fully built by Kaiborg are Ascii and Abraxas, who are the two original primagen suits, and Viridian, that one green protogen that used to belong to Dr. Wildlife until they sold it to their current owner a couple years back.

[up][up]You should. It will make the inside of the head a lot easier to clean if your sweat goes into the balaclava rather than the head.

Not all furries are attracted to animals. Some are, some aren't. It's really just an interest in anthropomorphic animals; there's nothing inherently sexual about that. Of course, there's a lot of "yiff" (p0rn), but there's wholesome shit too.

Rarely will you find a furry whose biggest obstacle to embracing the fandom wasn't overcoming all the negative stereotypes of it they'd internalised. I know I was that way for a long while, rejecting the furry label even as my denial became increasingly implausible.

The truth is, "furry" is what you make of it. This isn't a fandom with any room for pointless gatekeeping.
