That's....very humbling of you. I remember someone saying Finnish people in general are self humbling and understating their talents - is that true in your opinion?

Yes, it is. In Finnish culture, pride is considered an ugly thing, at least if it goes too far. Our genuine reactions to some things might come off as false humility to members of other cultures. That said, we're very proud of the society we have, as anyone who's seen my posts in OTC can tell.

The Finnish have no need of vainglorious pride. The rest of the world is too terrified of their guardian spirit to even consider fucking with them.

I'm glad that there are Danes and Norwegians here. More people for me to unite with - against Sweden, of course.

Amongst the Scandinavians, there does seem to be a disproportionate number of Finns, although a couple of the tropers I'm thinking of have either left or haven't posted in a long time.

I only approve of unification of Europe if I do it in strategy games by force. I'm skeptical about prospect of Europe as super state in real life. Screw Brussels and their silly regulations!

Finn here.

There are many German tropers; have you read through this thread (in its whole, considerable length of four pages) or is it the case that the Germans haven't shown up (possibly because they fear the word "unite"?)
At least Octo stopped by, though he didn't mention being German it does read as his(?) location.

Finnish isn't an Indo-European language, so thinking like that won't get you far.
For grammar this is true, and a lot of words that sound similar are coincidences. However a lot of the words are taken from Swedish and Russian, and some are German in origin (the one that springs to mind is keisari), so knowlede of those languages can help. Keksi does also mean biscuit, now that I think of it it has at least three distinct meanings.

The Finnish have no need of vainglorious pride. The rest of the world is too terrified of their guardian spirit to even consider fucking with them.

I've seen a handful of handles, but they tend to drop off, lurk, stick to specific parts of the forum, or otherwise remain below the radar.

The reason a poster asked "does the UK count?" is our attitude of With Europe But Not Of It. And yes, that does need to be moved to Useful Notes.

Apparently you all wanted a Swedish troper to unite against or something? I seem to be relatively alone on these forums but atleast it's something.

Nothing wrong with that, on its own, but it seems that the only Southies here are me & Quag.

[up][up]I remember seeing a Spanish troper in a couple of OTC threads.
