[up] Atonement, actually, not Adoration, and Azusa Makishima does the manga, not Bou. Agree with you on the way it shows Takeru's descent into madness during the PTSD Arc, though. And not a few times I wish that âge would adapt the MLA manga into anime and not the VN directly.

Muv-Luv/Majikoi Otaku, I presume? Greetings from a fellow /m/ denizen. smile

Starting Alternative. I've heard it's really depressing, which might be problemat... oh god I forgot the absolutely ridiculous outfits they wore in Unlimited.

Hm, Kasumi and the brain... Perhaps the Kasumi we see is just a doll or empty vessel while the brain pilots her around? The brain would be Sumika's. Then again, Sumika is on the cover art. Random guessing is fun.

Takeru is way too tense. He's going to have a breakdown at this rate.

Be wary of the odd pacing. There's a lot of infodump in between segments of action, or lengthy conversations between characters. The action mostly starts after the Comprehensive Skill Evaluation stuff. In a way, MLA is kinda like Fate/zero, except MLA has a lot more of light-hearted stuff. The more depressing stuff doesn't show up until about halfway or two-thirds in.

Hitherto An IP Address How the hell did you find outtongue?

Yeah, I mix up the names of the artists sometimes.

Also, Kouki mentioned something about sponsors not liking Muv-Luv due to it advocating certain political ideals. What are they? Nationalism? Imperialism? The only thing I saw in Muv-Luv was advocating and glorifying dying in battle.

It was both very nationalistic and conservative. It is also arguably Anti-American. Arguably anyways.

Oho, so Takeru came up with my spoilered theory from above. Still not really to drastically new content yet, though Yuuko did start programming suits with combo making abilities.

Unlimited did seem rather nationalistic to me. I can't say regarding Alternative yet.

Yeah some ridiculously long explanations are the only big flaw I have with Alternative. Great stuff otherwise.

It's strange how it's actually nice to see Sumika again. I didn't like her at all.

Alternative does that to you. Even if you hated Extra, it's hard to suppress a grin when you see Sumika on the toilet, lame and cliched humor be damned.

gbatemper,

I would guess the nationalistic and military themes (YAMATO DAMASHII) would raise the hackles of some surrounding nations and be construed as a WWII Japan-glorifying throwback. I have a certain People's Republic in mind here in particular, but there may be others...

(Spoilers for the Coup arc in the link)

Hmmm... Yeah, Sumika is still in the Alternative world, isn't she? She's that brain. Or one of them.

I really need to stay away from the Muvluv page. It's tempting to go try to find that out.

Please tell me I'm not the only one who liked the ridiculously long explanations and the entire coup d'etat arc.

I liked that arc, but even I thought that the explanations were a little too long.

I loved the explanations on the BETA war history and BETA biology. It was a really fascinating read and I feel that they put a lot of care with the details. The quantum physics stuff did make my head hurt a bit, though.

Hitherto An IP Address, I see now. Muv-luv should get a anime. It will be fairly difficult to pull off the with the problem major genre shift, without spoiling the plot.

The BETA info dumps were quite interesting. But that was only because we didn't know much about the BETA. The Integrated Works book has the good info, especially the diagrams on the hive and tiers, and more about world history.

Ah, a coup. And its leader is kind of amusing to me since I actually bother to read Ayamine's route back in Extra. Seriously, that guy?

[up] That guy's... unsavory character traits is considered a multiversal constant in the fanbase, yeah.

If you've gone through Ayamine's Unlimited route you have seen the suspicious letters in her room, too.

Unsavory is one thing. The guy just seemed like a pussy in Extra. Hardly someone who could manage a coup.

Oh, should have spoken more plainly earlier. I should have said "That guy's faggotry...".

And in TDA 02 he wears a pink Armored Suit. Pink.

I would have pointed you towards the gag article on the character over at the ML fanwiki, but that would spoil the end of this arc.

So I have finally finished one route on Extra. It was actually less painful than I thought it would be. I actually thought the lacrosse arc was fine. I think my mind adapted to the scenery during my playtime because thinking about it, it was quite bad but I somehow managed to enjoy myself a little. At least it wasn't mind-numbingly boring or had characters that grated on my nerves like a certain other slice-of-life rom-com I played recently...

Alternative kind of makes me want to replay Extra. Considering the opening post for this thread, I probably won't, but still.

Well, the coup is all over. I felt it was handled a little clumsily.

@Thrombin: Which route?

It's funny how Extra actually becomes more readable and actually interesting after you finish Alternative, just to catch all that foreshadowing. Alternative really makes it obvious that all three were meant to be one work.
