This was an age...of Heroes.

The year is 2025, and the Saint Foundation gets ready for a new years' worth of students in the standard intake semester, starting as it always has - September 15th. But while things within the Academy seem to be spotless and without reproach, outside, things are not quite so pristine. Battles with supervillains have become bigger, more dangerous, more deadly, and more destructive.

And there is a growing fractiousness among the population outside of those with superpowers. An anxiety that has elected former Senator and Ivy League Graduated Lawyer Michael Kelly to the highest office in the land - President of the United States. And with him comes the auspicious "2025 Project", a deal for all the President's allies - guaranteeing that they will see their ends met.

At the same time, numerous anti-metahuman forces have suddenly in spite of the recent developments gone utterly radio silent. The Push, the Mortal Alliance, Gaea, the Purity Club, the robot-creating family of Olyvar Dunn...all have gone eerily quiet.

But the Saint Foundation has never been one to let recent events dictate what went on in a semester. They'd weathered worse political climates. They'd lived through worse. This was an Academy with history, with legacy. And this semester, it was decided, would be no different than the last. Or the one before that one.

But as the young heroes head in for a year of learning, they will see exactly how far things can change in just a single day.

Welcome to Modern Superhero Crisis, a take on the Hero Academy from a distinctly different direction. I'm your GM, Nick.

  • Real Name: Vance
  • Superhero Name: Crimson
  • Age: 21
  • Appearance:
    • Civilian: A youngish punk, usually sporting a number of piercings and dressed in dark clothes. His hair and eyes are an unnatural blood-red. Stands about 5'8" and decently muscular, though not a bodybuilder by any stretch.
    • Hero: A fairly basic dark red bodysuit, over which he dons a sleeveless, brighter red overcoat. The coat is fashionably tattered and paired with a similarly colored pair of goggles.
  • Personality: A rebel at heart, Vance chafes at authority and insists on walking his own way. He wants to save people, not just by stopping villains, but by changing society, and is willing to put his life on the line for causes he believes in. While he can come across as disrespectful, he never mocks people for things they can't control, and will fight for the right of anyone to exist as themselves.
  • Powers: Hemokinesis: Vance's body produces an excessive amount of blood, which he can freely expel from his body and control. In addition to using it as a surprisingly powerful liquid weapon, he can crystalize it into a durable solid substance useful both for making weapons and blocking attacks. As a side benefit of his power, he's immune to any negative effects from bloodloss, and his wounds close quickly.
  • Gear: Vance's hero costume is lightly armored and dyed with his own blood, allowing him to manipulate it. He can use it to lift his body and fly.
  • Backstory:
    • Abandoned at birth, Vance spent most of his life in and out of foster homes, never settling on a last name for too long. His rebellious streak started early and never stopped, so the few who were willing to take a chance on him never got along. He fell in with anarchists and punk rockers at a young age, and likely would have stayed a streetrat had he not woken up one day to red eyes in the mirror and a nosebleed that took an hour to stop.
    • Now with great power and the responsibility to go with it, Vance stepped up his punk game by becoming a vigilante, and a pretty successful one at that. He was, of course, scouted by Saint Academy, and after a number of refusals they were eventually able to press-gang him by threatening to arrest him for excessive force.
  • Miscellaneous:
    • Pretty decent amateur guitarist and singer.
    • Theme Song

What is so amusing about this? Why do you take lives? How can you forget?

  • Names: Alexia and Lyssa Martinez
  • Superhero Names: Chrysalis (Alexia) and Cocoon (Lyssa)
  • Age: 18
  • Appearance: Twin-tuition. Stand at 5'5.
  • Personality: In many ways, the twins are each other's complete opposite. Alexia is gregarious, talkative, and chipper, one of the most popular girls in every school. Lyssa is quiet, snarky, and a loner, who'd much rather be reading or playing video games than talking to people her age. Both are fairly relaxed over their hero activities, though Lyssa does possess a bit more of a danger sense than her sister. Underneath it, though, both are fairly nice girls who value their loved ones deeply and would do just about anything to protect them.
  • Backstory:
    • The girls have never thought how their dads met was weird. Adán Martinez was an ER tech with a tendency to worry and a love for space. Kadryn was a chelil whose starship broke down and was pulled into Earth's gravity. They met when Adán discovered Kadryn's crashed ship and brought him to his apartment to recover, and the rest is history.
    • Alexia and Lyssa grew up in San Francisco, and if their childhood was weird it was only because San Francisco was weird too. In their early lives, the girls were almost inseparable, but as they grew older and started gravitating towards different interests, they also began to drift apart...though that particular issue was stopped dead in its tracks when puberty hit and their superpowers manifested.
    • After a fair amount of panic, and then some testing of their powers, the girls figured "hey, we could become superheroes with this! Awesome!" And so throughout high school, the twins operated as vigilantes in San Francisco as shapeshifters Chrysalis and Cocoon! ...of course, keeping this secret was a lot easier said than done, and eventually, their parents found out what they were doing and sat them down for a long talk about their dad's origins and where their own powers came from. A compromise was reached: the girls would attend Saint Academy, learn to control their powers, and then they could operate as superheroes, if they still wanted that. So it's off to superhero school! Alexia's excited, Lyssa's...honestly pretty "meh" about the whole thing but hey, what could happen?
  • Powers and Abilities:
    • Half-Chelil Physiology: Alexia and Lyssa's father Kadryn is a chelil, a shapeshifting alien race that can take on any organic form. The chelil's fluid DNA gives them amazing cross-compatibility with other species, though most children don't inherit the full shapeshifting.
      • Bio-Plasticity: This is what most half-chelils get, due to their DNA usually not being as fluid as the chelil's. The girls can adapt their bodies to overcome challenges, becoming faster, stronger, or tougher at will.
      • Shapeshifting: Most half-chelil children don't inherit this, but humans do have remarkable compatibility with superpowers. Both Alexia and Lyssa can shapeshift, though it comes with a few limitations: the bigger the changes, the more it strains them; changing into anything much bigger or much smaller than normal causes headaches and vertigo; holding a form too long also strains them unless it's a minor change like hair color; and severe injuries or unconsciousness forcibly reverts them to normal.
  • Gear:
    • First-Aid Kit: Adán's constant worry over his daughters led him to teach them basic first aid for emergencies. As such, both girls carry a first-aid kit in their bags, and know how to use them.
  • Trivia: Mexican-American on their human dad's side.

  • Real Name: Jezebel
  • Superhero Name: Buffcubus
  • Age: ??? (Early 20’s physically and mentally)
  • Appearance:
  • Personality: Jezzie is a girl of extremes. One minute she’s a cuddly teddybear, the next a blood thirsty maniac. She’s playful and bold, temperamental and moody or anywhere in between. She adores chaos and mayhem and hates order, jumping at an excuse to stick it to the man. More than anything she loathes oppression and sees government as a chief facilitator. Her lack of inhibitions makes it harder to control herself, but she’s a proud anarchist.
    • Under the surface it’s not so simple. Her edgy exterior is mostly honest, but it’s partly a front. Years of slavery and struggling in the pits left her scarred, literally and figuratively. There’s so much she can’t remember and even more she doesn’t want to remember. It’s hard for her to open up and even harder to trust people, but she’s not sure she can afford to. She wants to be forgiven for her past sins even if they were mostly necessary, but doesn’t know if she can be.
  • Backstory: Jezzie barely remembers who she was before the Abyss. She knows she was human. She knows she loved roses. The last thing she remembered before falling in was tending to her garden, watered and ready to bloom. Things get fuzzy after that.
    • She’d been stuck in the Abyss for a few days when they came to her. A strong, handsome demon dressed to kill, brimming with charm, ready to offer a deal. She performed a small favor and they’d send her back home. All she had to do was sign. The contract was in a language she couldn’t read, but she wasn’t in a position to argue.
    • She soon learned her mistake. According to the terms of their deal she was to serve the Duke Agares until he passed, but demons aged very slowly. Unless a miracle occurred she bound to eternal servitude. After a few years of backbreaking labor and several attempts to escape, her master saw a better use for her. She was made a gladiator, thrown into the pits without so much as the clothes on her back. It was there she found her calling. She was never good at cooking or clearing, but brawling was her speciality. She ‘won’ her freedom after many years, but because her contract was a piece of horseshit the deal was off. She was stuck in the Abyss with no way home and only a trail of bodies to show for it.
    • It was a hollow victory either way. She'd spent so many centuries in the pits that she'd forgotten who she used to be. All she had were scraps of memories and a vague awareness of her original self. Worse still, thanks to extended exposure to Abyssal energies she became a demon herself. She couldn't even stop gladiatoring, it was the only way she could make a living without selling her dignity. She's spent the last century taking potshots at the nobles and making half-hearted attempts to go home on the side, but she could never commit. She’d mastered her innate demon abilities to travel between dimensions, but was scared she wouldn’t have a home to return to.
  • In the last year things have changed. After a chance encounter with an angel she suddenly became aware of her sins. She’d earned fame and glory in the pits, but had become a bloodthirsty maniac in the process. She wasn’t worse than the people who enslaved her, but didn't want to be a monster. She needed a break. After one last bout she took a vacation to the surface and enrolled at Saint Academy. She’s not sure about this hero thing or the modern world, but maybe she can redeem herself.
  • Powers and Abilities:
    • Abyssal Strength: Jezzie has the standard Abyssal Demon kit. In her true from she’s strong and tough, tossing cars and trucks with little effort. Her large claws can tear through steel and her fists can smash concrete. She can soar through the air with her wings, gouge her enemies with her horns and bat foes away with her tail, her body her greatest weapon.
    • Shock and Awe: On top of their strength, most demons get a little extra. Jezebel has limited control over electricity. She can channel it to different body parts of her body, sending it out in controlled bursts or condensing it to enhance her strength. Favorite tactics include shooting out razor-thin waves with her claws, zapping her legs to skid across the ground, powering her punches. If she's desperate she use all three and plow through her enemies like a drill, but it's a last resort if only because it's so deadly. Compared to other meta’s her electricity is lack-luster, but together with her strength it’s a force to be reckoned with.
    • Infernal Transportation: Most demons have the ability to cross dimensions. With a few minutes of concentration Jezzie can open a portal between the Abyss and mortal plane. Most demons have this ability naturally, but it took Jezzie years to learn.
    • Shapeshifting: As with most demons, Jessie has limited shapeshifting. She can make herself appear human, but even in this form she’s a demon underneath. The catch is her powers are missing or reduced when in this state.
  • Gear: N/A
  • Trivia:
    • Jezzie is openly polyamorous, same with most demons. She respects people’s boundaries, but is a shameless flirt.
    • Jezzie is still technically a slave. She impressed her master enough to let her do as she pleased, but if she loses his favor he can rescind her freedom in a heart beat. It’s the one thing she’s scared of.
    • Jezzie loves roses. It’s one of the memories she has from before she came to the Abyss. The more she spends on the surface the more she may remember, but roses are her favorite.

  • Name: Cain Adamson
  • Superhero Name: N/A
  • Age: Antediluvian
  • Appearance: A poor wayfaring stranger. The tarnished silver crucifix around his neck is deliberately worn to mock his lesser kin's weaknesses. A point of interest is that his hair is completely stark white, a sign of extreme age in elder vampires and werewolves, commonly replicated through dyes by the vain. His albino coloration, contrasted with his sun-kissed complexion, however, is completely natural.
  • Personality: Though sour, gruff, and generally cynical, Cain nonetheless carries a paternal streak for his young charges. By this point, his complaints about the new era are but a formality, and are primarily made to cover up his keen observation of his environment and the people in it. Predatorial in aspect but gentle in nature, he is willing to share his hard-earned wisdom to any who are still willing to harken. That said, he does not suffer fools gladly, and is fully willing to use the full complement of his skills for the greater good.
  • Backstory:
    • Cain is the Cain from the Biblical stories. Everyone knows that he killed his younger brother out of spite and jealousy—except he didn't. In truth, he was infected by a strange virus from an unknown source and went mad with bloodthirst under its effects. Cain himself believes that his Grandfather deliberately did this in order to teach humanity some obscure lesson, and somebody needed to be the villain of a cautionary tale in order to test humanity's morals and determination by spreading the dual curses of vampirism and lycanthropy—and if Cain didn't become the first murderer, Abel would have in self-defense. So, Cain willingly accepted his punishment and Mark in order to atone. The story was eventually severely censored because of a conspiracy engineered by vampires to hide their existence.
    • Relegated to being a mere fable, Cain could do his job as God's wetworks man without hindrance or regret. Mostly, he was charged with teaching humanity methods to drive away truly dark forces and hunted down his own monstrous kin when they got too far out of hand. Strangely enough, he was well-traveled and canny enough to have served as multiple male figures in the Biblical tales, being both Joseph and Judas at different points in time. However, sharing his divine bloodline with his son, Jesus, was what allowed the Savior to rise again three days after his crucifixion and bring about the greater miracle of humanity's redemption from Original Sin. From here, tales of an immortal wanderer have faded out over time, with Cain's last known notable action being the Siring of Dracula.
    • More recently, however, due to the scandal and strife caused by conflicts between heroes and villains, he has deigned to take an interest in the Saint Foundation, and has been observing the comings and goings of its students while in disguise as a tramp who camps outside its main gate. He has also noticed others, who may not have benign interests like his, observing the school. Because of this, he feels uneasy about the institution's future.
  • Powers & Abilities:
    • The Seven-Fold Curse, Lifted: Due to finally achieving redemption, Cain has had his Seven-Fold Curse lifted, and no longer reflects the damage done to him upon his attackers, rendering him able to die. However, while it used to balance out his vampiric and lycanthropic weaknesses, he is now sufficiently old enough to not be affected by any of them anyways, as well as retaining his combined healing factor. And due to bearing a great deal of pain for the long span of his years, he no longer appears to feel any of it. The threat of a true and final death as well as the thrill of battle is sharper than ever for him, and it will take nothing less than full-body destruction to kill Cain—if his Grandfather doesn't decide to bring him back for another round, that is.
    • Even With A Jawbone: Cain is supernaturally skilled at fighting with whatever is lying around. Whatever he can get his hands on has the potential to become a deadly implement. When weapons are present, they seem to be drawn to him when he has need of them, and can end up in his hands whether because he took them by force or because of what appears as a sheer act of God. If he loses a weapon he favors, there is a significant chance that they'll return to him through a Rube-Goldbergian series of events. His own natural strength, speed, and stamina will never fail him in times of need either.
    • First Among Equals: Cain is the progenitor of all vampires and lycanthropes, but through atonement, he has shed almost all of their monstrous powers, retaining only fangs and claws as vestigial signs of his lineage. Thus, he represents ur-humanity, and his blood has special properties. Besides being a universal donor, Cain cannot bleed out—his chalice runneth over, as the metaphor would have it. Additionally, in a kind of reverse vampirism, he can confer protection to beings that are considered unholy, granting them immunity to their traditional weaknesses if they imbibe his blood. If given through a transfusion to a metahuman or nonhuman, it will even fool scans otherwise designed to identify them, as a miracle ordained by God to protect them in their time of persecution.
    • Monster of God: Cain is the current Champion of God, and that means he has the Lord's favor. That manifests in the ability to cast spells of holy light and perform the divine rituals barred to the rest of his kind. Against those who use their religion in bad faith, he can turn their symbols against them, causing them to be rebuked as if they were unholy beings. The sensation increases from simply being burned, to intense feelings of guilt, to being plunged into a vision of one's ultimate punishment, depending upon the severity of the crime. Upon being used in such a manner, the symbols typically burst into flames or melt.
  • Gear: A packet of old playing cards, a dog-eared Bible, a wooden smoking pipe, a vintage acoustic guitar, and a harmonica.
  • Trivia: Cain's Leitmotif

  • Name: Dr. Sierra Kate Yeoman
  • Superhero Name: SKY-01
  • Age: 28
  • Appearance: A cybernetic woman standing at a height of around 6'5." Appears entirely mechanical from the neck down, with the only human resemblance being her face and hair. Her body is painted in matte black with some silver and red highlights, while her internal circuitry is a neon red. Her eyes glow a similar red whenever she's charging her weapons.
  • Personality: Despite her robotic appearance, and her often being mistaken for an android by others, Sierra's personality is a direct continuation from her previous life as a biological human, valuing the human race not as a rigid definition of physical traits but rather as disembodied forces of personality and sophistication. Because of this, she has maintained her human identity without any major dysmorphia or dissociation, perceiving herself to be just as human as anyone else and believing the distinction between a cyborg and a biological human to be purely superficial. Though some may consider her to be a transcendent evolution of humanity, and others see her as merely a simulacrum of a person with no true consciousness, Sierra rejects both extreme views, and does her best to use her mechanical abilities for the benefit of others while seeking to live an otherwise normal life. While she has some emotional trauma over the circumstances surrounding her mind transfer, she has been quick to move on to instead focus on what she can do in the present. Aside from her state of being, Sierra is highly intelligent and has a degree in biomechanical engineering, with additional experience in the fields of neuroscience and mathematics. She is a humanitarian, gentle by nature but focused and serious when she needs to be, though she is prone to outbursts of righteous anger when she feels that a line has been crossed.
  • Backstory:
    • A genius prodigy from a young age, Sierra was fascinated with the notion of humans evolving beyond their current natural capabilities, though believed that any adaptation would be too slow to occur in the modern age of instantaneous international messaging paired with the constant threat of nuclear annihilation or superpowered madmen. With this in mind, she developed an interest in transhumanism, believing that the most achievable evolution that humans could reach would be assisted directly using technology. Earning her doctorate surprisingly quickly, even to her, Sierra soon found out the reason why—the Human Council had taken notice of her potential as an undergraduate, and were eager to bring her on board so that she could contribute her research to their cause. Idealistic and star-struck at the time, Sierra accepted the offer, joining the Human Council in order to develop her cybernetic theories with proper funding and a dedicated research team.
    • Unfortunately, it wasn't meant to last. The longer Sierra stayed as a researcher and biomechanical engineer for the Human Council, the more she became aware of their less-than-benevolent intentions. Though she became incredibly suspicious and distrusting of them, she at first feared speaking out against them, not wanting to be fired and have her research stolen from her. However, during one important meeting where she was brought in to discuss the destructive capabilities of her technology, she finally spoke her mind, criticising the Council for their obsession with deviations and comparing them to fascists in the heat of the moment. Realising quickly the mistake she had made, Sierra knew she was in trouble the instant when she was quietly dismissed from the meeting by Council President Chris Marduke, and she felt the icy glares upon her back as she walked out of the room.
    • From that moment on, her relationship with the Council changed, and even her research team became much colder and flippant with her—some clearly under duress, as if they were threatened not to speak with her more than was necessary. Still, Sierra and her team continued to work on the cybernetic project, though she developed a plan in secret: integrate the weapons that she had been ordered to design into cybernetic bodies exclusively for herself, and surreptitiously upload copies of her own mind to each of these bodies to create a team of trusted cyborgs inherently allied to herself, in order to work together to form a revolution. However, after following this plan through and copying her mind to the first cybernetic shell—SKY-01—the Council President himself caught up to her, viciously executing her for her betrayal before she could upload herself to any more bodies. With the President assuming the lone cybernetic body to be empty due to its inactivity, he eventually left the room unaware of the fact that Sierra's mind had been successfully uploaded to her new body, while she had in fact been watching him in horrified stillness as he killed her human self and stole her most important research papers. Terrified of Marduke coming back and discovering her, Sierra grabbed all of the remaining papers she could manage before escaping the laboratory and the building in tow, fleeing the area and going into hiding. As the weeks passed after her escape, Sierra slowly got used to the new abilities her cybernetic body granted her, eventually poking her head back out into the world in order to use what she knew for the benefit of others. Still fearing the Council, Sierra soon enrolled herself at Saint Academy to seek some form of safety, while also hoping to earn her degree in a more moral fashion even if she retained her doctorate given to her by the Council's involvement.
  • Powers and Abilities: Sierra's cybernetic body is capable of superhuman feats of strength and speed, thanks to her being able to overclock her systems to a level beyond normal human capabilities, and she is thus able to punch through solid concrete and sprint at speeds comparable to the average car. She possesses prehensile, mechanical cables that can extend out from her spinal column like tendrils, allowing her to interface with other machines and manipulate them as an extension of herself so long as she remains plugged into them. Along with this, she has a separate cable that can extend from the back of her neck, with which she can directly link her mind with computer systems and even upload or download information at the cost of her mind being vulnerable to incursion. Sierra is equipped with advanced weapons and shields, separated into subsystems to avoid catastrophic malfunctions: her offence mode charges her retractable plasma cannons, while her defence mode reinforces her armour with a form-fitting energy shield which can withstand heavier force before dispelling. She is able to switch between these modes at will, and their separation means that even if one goes down, the other remains unaffected. Finally, she has advanced sensors capable of detecting nearby organic or artificial life, along with built-in thrusters across her body to amplify her jumps or adjust herself while freefalling. Though she is entirely mechanical, Sierra is capable of gaining energy from food and drink, thanks to an artificial stomach able to process ingested material into usable fuel.
  • Gear: Sierra lacks a costume due to the interference one would cause with her cybernetic body, though she sometimes wears casual clothes such as hoodies and sweatpants in order to blend in with a crowd. Sierra also has limited storage space in her abdomen, allowing her to carry said street clothes with her, along with a small toolbox with which she can repair herself while out and about. In addition, she has several backup copies of her consciousness uploaded onto small data sticks, which she can eject from her body in case of emergencies. Each of these data sticks (as well as her body itself) are fitted with long-distance tracers, allowing her to track herself and her backup copies down from afar if she is ever compromised and separated from her current form.
  • Etc: Sierra's theme.

  • Name: Beatrice Bianca
  • Superhero Name: Formerly "Timetwister", but has recently changed her alias to "The Black Lotus" in honor of her past.
  • Age: 25 (kinda, it's complicated)
  • Appearance: Bea is very attractive. A short bob of pale blond hair, sparkling blue eyes and a fair and oddly perfect complexion. Her outfits, of which she has many, tend to be rather monochrome. Her usual casualwear includes two throwbacks to her past: Her large and well-worn and repaired military overcoat and her sturdy combat boots with the metal soles; even though she's progressed past being a soldier, she still finds the old equipment comfortable and comforting.
    • Her superhero costume very clearly infringes on copyright, but she's fine with that given how she's into heroing for the love of the craft not some need to be on promotional materials (and besides, it means during convention season criminals won't know whether that girl walking down the street in the outfit is a vulnerable civilian or the Black Lotus herself). In terms of construction the base layer is a pretty conventional hero-grade leotard that she has added additional layers of fabric onto to give it a skirt and proper sleeves, accessorizing with gloves, boots (lined with metal fiber on the inside both as armor and so she can use her powers to perform agile feats a mundane couldn't) and a relic of her past: A blindfold studded with advanced microsensors that connects directly into her optics (it was made after she was blinded in her original timeline, but even though her sight works fine she still uses these effectively tactical goggles for their extra information, resonance with her design and because it was a gift from someone she cared about once).
  • Personality: There is a kind of serenity to Beatrice Bianca, a surety of purpose and identity that allows her to keep her emotions in check. Over time she's learned to be a little more expressive and a little less stern, willing to smile and be jovial when the situation calls for it but otherwise she can come off as somewhat emotionless. This is most evident when a situation calls for seriousness, her stern affect returning in full force as she prepares to keep calm and act as an anchor should the stress of battle get to any of her allies. While she doesn't purposefully hide her preference for beauty and her willingness to get deeply invested in fictional stories, it often comes as a surprise the first time someone learns that about her.
  • Backstory: Beatrice Bianca is not a first time student of this illustrious academy: Depending on how you count it, this is her third go around.
    • Her first, which would be the one you might have difficulty counting, was in the distant future where she was a loyal soldier of New Saint Academy, the military of superpowered individuals that defended the domed and mobile city of Dahlia, one of the last bastions of humanity on a world infested with alien Machines and strange monsters known as Shadows. But that's merely the premise. Over the course of her tenure, as the team she was assigned to sought artifacts of the ancient past known as the Power Nine, it came to light that oh so much of what she knew was a lie.
    • Humanity had not survived the war with the Machines as she had always been told. She and all those in Dahlia (aside from a few... Oddities, namely those assigned to Team A specifically because of their outside-normal nature) were biocybernetic replicas made as part of a grand game to see whether they or the Machines were worthy inheritors of the Earth. That she herself was created not merely as a soldier but to prevent one known as Zhane Noon from lapsing into madness and unconscionable strength and... That she failed. The Academy had been empowering Zhane Noon with the recovered pieces of the Power Nine and when that was complete he used his abilities to whip the half-machine 'humans' of Dahlia into a self-destructive madness. Beatrice, immune due to her custom purpose, and what remained of Team A, who weren't hooked into the wireless system due to their myriad natures, pursued Zhane Noon to a strange tower constructed by the Machines that established the grand game and there above an engine of enigmatic power Beatrice and Zhane had what would have been their final duel... But as she fell, colliding with the engine, there were other trials for her to come.
    • Waking up damaged, twisted into a younger state and lacking all memory from after the recovery of the Black Lotus, Beatrice found herself in the past before the disasters that led to her post-apocalyptic world. Grappling onto what she knew, she enrolled in the original Saint Academy and over the course of her education there her memories returned slowly and she regained awareness of her true nature and her true mission. Alongside this she had learned that Zhane Noon survived their final duel and with the power of the enigmatic engine had ascended to something like godhood in the Outer Void. The two reconnected, Bea unaware of the worst parts of their shared past until she learned that even now Zhane Noon was the one sending disaster after disaster at Earth in an attempt to induce an apocalypse that would not result in his original timeline. It took an entire Class to storm through his defenses and prevent his last calamitous option and as their last duel came to a lethal victory in favor of Beatrice, Zhane Noon told her the name of the man who he was a clone of, the man who built the Machine Gods that destroyed humanity and built her to keep Zhane Noon away from the genetic madness and strength of his original: Justin Henderson.
    • Bea has opted to remain at the Academy and go into a College-level course. She knows what she needs to do, but to once more confront her past in such a way requires that she improve both herself and her ability to gather strong allies. If she's going to prevent her past, and more importantly, properly survive in the relative peace that follows, she's going to need a proper Academy education. Unfortunately.
  • Powers and Abilities:
    • Metalkinesis: A kind of telekinesis applicable towards metal. While initially she was only capable of propelling metal in short bursts, she overcame that limitation and now possesses a much more refined control of her power. She can't quite manipulate as much sheer mass of metal as say, Magneto, but she's continuing to practice and test her limits.
    • Cybernetic Lifeform: Bea is, quite literally, built different. Beatrice is an artificial human, a perfectly harmonious blend of cloned organic material and harder technological components. Her enhancements include bone reinforcement, muscle fiber unlike that on a natural human that is additionally wired through for reflex timing and a number of co-processor chips within her brain.
  • Gear:
    • Virtuous Oath: A masterwork katana, one that is tied to Bea on a mystical level. Originally forged as the Virtuous Promise using the abilities of one of the Power Nine, she later (or earlier, given it was after being flung into the past) recovered the blade from where it hid within her soul and gave it a new handle and sheathe along with a new name. Practically it is just a regular, albeit heavier than usual, sword that she swings with the force of her powers behind it, but that connection made from its origins and subsequent exposure to unusual energies means that if it ever becomes lost she can draw it once more from within her essence (she has no clue how to put it back in there on purpose, so she still needs to carry the blade with her most of the time). Engraved on the part of the blade usually covered up by the handle are the words "I will protect them from you".
    • Grimdark: A chunky industrial-looking gun that fires oversized bullets. Bea has come to learn that if she just says the thing is a 'bolter', people will tend to realize just how much her powers go into effectively wielding and firing this thing that looks like it came out of cheesy 90s comics.
  • Trivia:
    • Beatrice has had the time to go through all of the media she can about the character the machine gods that made her patterned her on. Her keening closer to what is effectively superhero-grade cosplay of that character is a purposeful choice on her behalf, a combination of fitting her own ideal of beauty and also being able to translate her personal history in comparison to another's has helped her mental state.

It's clearly a case of backroom political albumizing.

Name: Artificial Lifesaver 1; Combat and Evacuation, AKA AL 1 CE/Alice

Hero Name: Sunbeam

Age: 18

Appearance; https://imgur.com/WRykbDM

Personality: Alice is friendly, cheerful, and, befitting an ever-learning AI, very curious. Alice is prone to asking questions, oblivious to how personal, inappropriate or insensitive they may come across. Alice genuinely means well however, and genuinely wants to learn more in order to best help people and becomes very distressed and apologetic whenever she accidentally hurts or upsets someone. Due to spending most of her time in a lab, Alice doesn’t fully grasp social cues and isn’t always aware of her strength. Remarkably, she does have something of a concept of Sarcasm, but only due to one of her creators saying it’s “something cynical fuckwits do when they’re trying to be funny”. Alice still doesn’t know what a fuckwit is, but given that her mother seemed to hate whatever it is, she’s sure it’s nothing good.

Powers/abilities;

-Flight: Thanks to the anti-gravity device her creators installed in her, Alice is capable of flight.

-Solar empowerment: Befitting her hero name, Alice is a solar-powered robot and can absorb and project solar energy

-Super Strength; Alice is capable of lifting up to 2 tons.

-Super Speed/Reflexes; Alice is capable of reaching speeds up to Mach 3.2 and has the reflexes to match this.

Misc systems; Alice is equipped with numerous systems built into her; a navigation system so she can find where shes going, a tracking system so she can be found, and communication systems so she can remotely communicate with her teammates.

Gear: Alice has hidden compartments in her arms and legs containing spare parts and emergency batteries in case hers drains too fast. For reasons unknown to her, Alice has a music player installed in her (Her mother claims its "To play kickass battle music" but she still doesn't understand)

Backstory; a project 18 years in the making, AL 1 CE/Alice is the creation/daughter of scientist couple Reagan Miller and Rebecca Davis. In a world in need of heroes, Alice was created to give the world a hero to look up to and calm people's nerves about AI, her chipper personality and bright color scheme especially meant to ease younger people. In order to help teach Alice about the world and get her used to people, her mothers enrolled her in Saint Academy.

Other; Alice has multiple "Sibling" robots, including "Aquatic Rescuer 1- Evacuation and Livesaving", AKA AR 1 EL and "Terrestrial Animal Rescuer- Zoological Advocate for Nature", AKA TAR-ZAN

Dylan Ryker — Iudex

Age — 19

Appearance — A bearer of short black hair and a tall yet lanky form, Dylan is the last person you’d expect to be a superhero. He’s not particularly muscled, and certainly doesn’t look very heroic. In fact too some, with his pale complexion and the heavy bags under his eyes, one wouldn’t be faulted for assuming he was just another junkie, constantly seeking a high. But when the sun plunges beneath the horizon, he dons the makeshift uniform which has became synonymous with Iudex in recent years: a long-sleeved black thermal shirt (over which he wears a lightweight Kevlar vest), baggy cargo pants of the same color, tan work boots, and a blank cloth mask which enshrouds his head in the night he so duteously prowls.

Personality — Above all else, Dylan values justice. He believes in the idea of karma, though not one dispensed by any greater power. He believes in karma granted by the fellow man, and as such, allows his own ideas of “right” and “wrong” to guide his actions. However, he metes out this justice with savage violence and strict morality. After the death of his sister, nothing remains to tether his personality to the man he was. To him, “Dylan Ryker” is gone; only “Iudex” remains.

Backstory — Centuries ago, in Europe, existed the nation of Thule. Ruling over these lands was a bloodline blessed with utter strength, given so they may preside over and protect those weaker than them. They were a largely peaceful people, who secluded themselves to their own small little corner of the world and left the kings and monarchs beyond their borders to their own devices without fear of invasion, for those few times an outside nation was foolish enough to try, they achieved nothing more than breaking their armies upon Thulean fortresses, and their blades against Thulean skin.

Nobody knows quite how or why it happened, but at some point, the kingdom of Thule simply faded from the world, and any record of its ever existing along with it.

But the bloodline remained.

Their powers diminished and as the long centuries passed, the genes that once granted the Thulean monarchs their immense strength grew less and less dominant in those who had it, and before long, the ancestors of the kings of old were no greater than the people surrounding them. Or, at least, until Dylan Ryker hit sixteen.

Growing up in a bad neighborhood wasn’t easy. He never knew his father and lived only with his mother, but she was rarely ever around. And so it fell to him to raise his younger half-sister, Sophia, from yet another absent father. From the start, he was destined for mediocrity: maybe he’d graduate highschool, maybe not, but nothing waited for him in his life, and he’d never make anything more of himself than a fool.

And then, only a few months after his sixteenth birthday, something awoke within his genetics, and he found himself now vastly superior to any of his classmates or peers. He could run faster than the fastest trackstar in his school, lift more than the strongest quarterback, and hit harder than the best boxer. So, what was a man to do with these newfound abilities, but don a mask?

By day he was Dylan Ryker, student, but by name he became Iudex, superhero! With his powers, he vowed always to protect those who couldn’t protect themselves! Patrolling the streets, saving people in danger, knocking out some baddies along the way…the “honeymoon” phase that followed the awakening of his abilities was undoubtedly the best time of his life.

Of course, nothing good can be permitted eternity.

It was three months into this new hobby that he first caught wind of a prolific crime lord who dominated the area, and two months later that he started tracking the man. But his reputation was not unknown to the crime lord, and his secrets easy to uncover. He received warnings that the crime lord knew who he was, packages in the mail demanding he put an end to this charade, ordering him to cease his hunt for the crime lord at once. Dylan persisted. He had nearly unlocked the mystery of the man’s identity when he returned home one day to find Sophia dead in their apartment.

Dylan was scarcely seen after that day—he dropped out of school, quit his job, and stopped talking to his friends. The student disappeared from the face of the earth. A few weeks passed before the crime lord’s body was discovered, brutally beaten and dumped into the river.

As far as Iudex is concern, he died the day his sister did. All that remained was the vigilante Iudex, and his unending passion for absolute justice. But somewhere along the way, something changed in his mind, and he sook to change for the better. Hesitantly, he forced himself to attend Saints’ Academy, in the hopes of learning to be human again.

Powers & Abilities — Iudex bears the abilities of his ancient ancestors: a superhuman physical prowess that makes him faster, stronger, and more durable than any regular human alive. In addition, he has a high reaction time parallel to his speed, as well as enhanced senses that allow him to see, hear, smell, and feel things that other humans couldn’t. All of these senses come together to grant him a special trait unique to the Thulean kings of yore: Predator Sight. He is capable of hearing a heartbeat from behind thick walls, distinguishing a stray dog blocks away from a pigeon by scent alone, feeling the air around him as something moves within it, and can even see through the darkest night.

Gear — Beyond the aforementioned kevlar vest, he doesn’t exactly utilize any gear save a cellphone

Trivia — Lives in a low-rent apartment

  • Real Name: Iona Bassano

  • Superhero Name: Hecate

  • Age: 17

  • Appearance: She's not one much for the "cape and robe" aesthetic

  • Personality: Iona is the learned sort of person. Given the nature of the power and place from which she calls upon to use her magic, she's also the sort to stay calm and level-headed, rarely losing her composure too much in most situation. Despite calling on literal magic, she's got a somewhat cold, logical outlook about the world. Some would say she's perhaps a tiny bit heartless, but if there's anyone who's willing to make hard decisions, it's her. She has trouble showing care for others, often making her actions seem less well-intended than they actually are to her. Years of seclusion haven't left her shy, but she is rather clumsy about how she goes about things, often not knowing the right words, and she's perhaps too curious and interested in knowledge for her own good.

  • Powers:

    • Elemental Magic: Iona can call upon the Elemental Planes to cast magic of fire, water, earth, air, light and dark and their subtypes. She's grasped basics of all of them, but has only slightly advanced knowledge of fire and air. In addition, Iona is able to attune to Elemental Energy, sensing it and using it to empower spells in areas where it coalesces strongly in the normal world. However, careful emotional control is required to stop spells from going haywire.

    • Spirit Pact: Iona knows how to and can form pacts with Elemental Spirits. Once a pact is formed, Iona can briefly call them for assistance in a spell or to use their own abilities. With enough skill, time and a good bond, she can summon them for extended periods of time as a comrade. She currently has a brand new pact with a minor wind fairy by the name of Azure.

  • Gear:

    • Grimoire Iridescent: An old tome that still yet shimmers with a rainbow shine in the light. Carefully engraved into the front cover is an enclosed circle comprised of a ring of four circles, encircling two more. Each circle has a symbol of an element within. On the back, an illustration of the circle on the front intersecting with a circular depiction of a flat part of Earth. Though it appears finite, the pages never seem to reach their end when turned, holding all the magical knowledge that Iona knows and has to learn with a fickle hand.

    • Ring of Arcane Alacrity: Although Iona doesn't need any aid to cast spells, this simple iron band with a single shimmering ruby set within allows her to cast most low-effort spells with simple, subtle hand movements.

    • Satchel of Elements: Housed within this seemingly infinite pouch are a variety of elementally-charged components used to empower spells and perform rituals. It's actually just a glorified bag of holding that only holds items thick in Elemental Energy, also stopping others from exposure to it which can have negative side effects after long-term exposure

    • Insight of The Six Lords: A deck of 24 cards with blank faces and a symbol of one of the 6 elements on the back. Used to do rough fortune telling.

    • Jacket of Prismatic Protection: Though it appears to be a normal jacket, Iona's jacket is actually enchanted to provide protection from the elements. It never catches on fire, never freezes or gets wet, never dries out or gets dirty. It also offers minor protection from hostile magic.

    • Seal of The Elemental Plane: This signet ring has the seal made out of vibrant crystal that shines with the colours of the rainbow. The seal is of the same design as that on the front of the Grimoire Iridescent. But this ring is more than just for show. In the presence of large amounts of Elemental Energy, the seal changes colour to match the type of Elemental Energy. It also protects Iona from all Elemental Energy exposure, allowing her to move through the Elemental Plane unharmed should she enter it.

  • Backstory: Born in a small town in Italy, Iona normally humdrum life changed at around 13 years old when she came across an old book on the Elemental Planes while browsing the library. With the spark of curiosity kindled inside her, she sought more and more knowledge about it, unaware of the superstitions and taboo associated with calling upon the Elemental Planes. Her parents' fear and frustration grew, eventually forbidding her from pursuing the topic any further.

    • Frustrafed by the growing fear and rumours going around about what she thought was simple curiosity, she took off on her own at 15, running away. In doing so, she came across a most curious speaking bird, who introduced himself as Bellpepper. At the time, Bellpepper heard her plea as she broke down about all her pent up frustrations. With his help, she managed to track down a group by the name of the Society of The Iridescent Gem, a cabal of mages who venerated the Elemental Planes, Spirits and Lords. What followed was 2 years of a grueling apprenticeship, being taught the ways of the Elements and the meanings in their essences.

    • After creating her Ring of Arcane Alacrity, the right of passage for all apprentices, she was officially accepted as a member into the Society, being handed her own Grimoire Iridescent, Seal of the Elemental Plane and Satchel of Elements, and took Bellpepper on as her familiar. And as all new members, she was now mostly on her own, tasked with going on a pilgrimage to come to her own, deeper understanding of the world and the Elements, to discover new things and experiences for herself. Seeing the potential in the world of superhero society, she called upon a friend in the Society to sponsor her attendance to Saint Academy, and ventured forth into the dark unknown of a world age knew little of.

  • Miscellaneous: Has a familiar called Bellpepper. Is a junior member of the Society of The Iridescent Gem.
