Hi everyone, new troper here and this my eight thread on This Very Wiki.

In the wake of 22 anniversary of the first movie I decided to create thread focused on this amazing series which takes place in, you know, ice age. Here you can post everything related to this amazing series, be it your favourite characters, moments from the films or your theories. To better get you in the anniversary mood, here's Send Me On My Way, the song that everyone has in their heads when thinking about the first film or series in general.

Hmmm... After quickly scanning through Western Animation-threads, it does look like that the only thread we have for for Ice Age (beside this one) is one for Ice Age 4.

I assure you, I'm a completely trustworthy person.

Given that I created this thread, I will also start a first discussion on it.

What type of marine reptile Cretaceous is? It seems that even the creators themselves cannot decided what species of marine reptile he belongs to, because Ice Age Village (an online game) and official magazine Ice Age: Animal Collection refer to him as Metriorhynchus while the Essential Guide refers to him as Ichthyosaurus. I personally think that him being Metriorhynchus is more plausible option since he looks nothing like a Ichthyosaurus, and the fact that I am little based given that I learned about first option before learning about the existence of Essential Guide. [up] I think the same two, plus a statement of him being a Metriorhynchus has two backings and the other has one only.

"Bingo! If two species hate each other, they will wipe each other out on their own."

[up] So going by your post, does then issue of what species Cretaceous is deserves to be Broken Base?

[up]Isn't Broken Base about disagreement regarding the quality of a certain element in a work, rather than disagreement on what species a character is?

EDIT: From the Broken Base page: "When adding examples, please keep in mind that all four of the following criteria must be met to qualify. Minor disagreements don't count." The four criteria are that the disagreement is 1) sustained (has been going on long after the release of the work), 2) vicious (i.e. going into Flame War territory), 3) has at least two big camps (otherwise it's just a Vocal Minority), 4) is divisive (there's no middle ground).

I have seen heated arguments regarding whether or not the balrog has wings or the Eagles could have carried the hobbits to Mordor, but never one regarding what species the sea monsters are in Ice Age 2. I think it's just a minor disagreement, not Broken Base.

[up] Then to what trope you think the argument about whether Cretaceous is a Metriorhynchus or Ichthyosaurus belongs to? Misaimed Fandom?

[up] My only problem with this is that it says that Cretaceous is officially a Ichthyosaurus while as you can see in my post that kickstarted this discussion is that there are two official sources (a magazine and online game) that identify him as Metriorhynchus. With that cleared up, is there is a trope about where even a creators can't decide to which species a animal character belongs to?

[up] So on which Trivia page should I put it? On the franchise page or The Meltdown page?

Snicka Since: Jun, 2011
#14: Mar 23rd 2024 at 2:04:34 PM

[up]It's specific to that film, so Meltdown, unless the franchise page already has a Flip-Flop of God entry (in which case you can expand that).

[up] I asked that question since both franchise and The Meltdown pages have Viewer Species Confusion with these two, so I thought the same could be for Trivia page.

In the wake of recently released trailer for Jurassic World: Chaos Theory, I decided to ask you guys a question. If Blue Sky Studios wasn't shut down and the series had continued, what do you think what prehistoric animals could have appeared in the future productions? I personally would liked to see woolly rhino, Paraceratherium, tasmanian wolf, Sivatherium, Leptictidium, Andrewsarchus (which was cut from the first movie), Moa, Meiolania, Megalania, Megatherium, tapirs and terror birds appearing in potential 6th movie/Ice Age TV Show. But what are your ideas?

Do you guys think that Adventures of Buck Wild are canon to previous movies or not? Because I personally think they're not.

Happy 18 anniversary to Ice Age: The Meltdown! Kinda appropriate since today we in Poland celebrate Śmingus-dyngus where we splash each other with water for good luck.

And given today is Easter Monday, what do you guys think of Ice Age: The Great Egg-Scapade? I personally think it's better Ice Age holiday special than the previous Christmas one. I also like how this special fleshed out Squint character, by making him hate the idea of bunnies being "cute but cowardly critters". But what are your opinions about it?

[up][up]Regarding the specials, Easter and Christmas existing in the Pleistocene is just baffling to me. Why couldn't they just make up prehistoric counterparts to the holidays? Spring equinox and winter solstice were a thing in prehistoric times too after all.

Well, we now have evidence that Sid is aware of the Norse gods, so Christianity isn't too far-fetched.

[up][up] As a child, I didn't questioned why characters celebrate Christmas and Easter despite living in time period before that events had happened. But now that I'm older, I admit that it is indeed baffling. And your idea of prehistoric counterparts to these holidays is actually kinda cool.

[up] I don't know how, but I like the way this video ends.smile

Do you guys know why Manny despised Louis in fourth movie? Because it's never explained why he hates him so much, besides Manny being Helicopter Parent?

If the teased Jurassic World Evolution 2 pack with Megalodon will turn out to be Cenozoic DLC featuring mammoths, expect to me to post "Mammoths" from second movie in order to celebrate its teaser trailer release day.

Being comedy, the films already played fast and loose with history. They only increased in that as they went along.

[up][up]It's the Boyfriend-Blocking Dad comedy cliché. When a father has a teenage daughter, he takes extreme measures to protect her from any guy.
