I Will Punish Your Friend for Your Failure wants to be two things:

  1. A Bad Boss forcing their underlings to stay, similar to I Control My Minions Through...
  2. A villain forcing the hero to do their bidding, similar to I Have Your Wife

Is this a healthy trope combo considering the mentioned alternatives for each type?

These are both cases where someone attempts to control an other by non-lethal threats to a third party who is important to the person being controlled.

I'm unclear on what divides this from I Have Your Wife, but curiously the two pages aren't even cross-wicked.

Well, my superficial take is that I Have Your Wife is when it's a threat to harm the friend/family/loved one/otherwise-important-to-someone, while I Will Punish Your Friend for Your Failure is a formal sanction/punishment.
