Maybe this belongs here, instead of under Western Animation?

Anyway, what do you all think of indie animations? Obviously money needs to be raised in order to make them, so it's not like a group of scrappy underdogs come out of nowhere and make something amazing and drop it on the world, though there are some nice solo animations out there, like the ones I've seen of Undertale set to music.

There are bigger budget animations out there, like the one I watched recently, Godspeed.

It felt movie-like, though the frame rate wasn't the best. In the case of that one, though, it was by the creator of Final Space, who raised money to create what was intended to be the spiritual successor of his previous show, and he got industry talent that had already previously worked on professional cartoons, raised money on Kickstarter, and got an independent backer to fill in the rest of the money he needed, allowing a planned 6-minute animation to become a 24-minute animation.

So, how "indie" truly is it?

I do want to see more independently-made animation that doesn't require the backing of a big company that will inevitably force rules and limits on creators. That's what happened with Metalocalypse. As it became increasingly story-driven, an executive at Adult Swim, an older man in his late 50s who grew up in the era of humor-driven cartoons with little story, had it cancelled. That exec was known to hate storytelling in cartoons. Getting away from people like that means more creative freedom to not have to force comedy into something that works better without it (or with less of it), to have to use the generic popular art styles of the time (ever notice how many cartoons look just like each other, or whatever's popular?), and instead getting to truly create from the heart.
