Note: This thread was proposed by badtothebaritone.

This trope was made in 2010, it has only 21 wicks, and the majority of on-page examples are ZCEs. I think the idea of using a rear-view mirror as a metaphor for the past is valid, but it could use a run through the TLP for more examples.

Patiently awaiting the release of Paper Luigi and the Marvelous Compass.

Not paging the thread creator since they deleted their account. Anyway, I could get behind cutting and Yarding (or sending it to TLP if someone here steps up to make a draft).

This feels like it's rather too rare, and it's suspicious it's more commonly used in songs. Maybe this can be yarded as a broader "leaving your past" metaphor.

Huh, I assumed based on the title it might have been some kind of specific pun on the "objects in mirror are closer than they appear" phrase, but it turns out I was thinking of a different trope. This does seem way too overly specific, and most of the examples listed as ZCEs of presumably song lyrics... I wouldn't miss it if it was cut.

Looks like it's just that rare a trope.

The examples list needs help, as well: the literature section runs afoul of Examples Are Not General and doesn't list specific examples, and I don't see how the Sluggy Freelance entry is even an example, unless it's stretching the trope a lot.

I'd be fine with cutting this and Yarding that broader concept if the current page is Too Rare to Trope.

Going forward, it is time we cut and yard.

I think this is a perfectly valid metaphor and trope, just held back by a lack of context and crosswicking. I don't think all of the on page examples and entries on Quotes.Past In The Rear View Mirror are crosswicked. Also, I don't see how it being more common in songs would be a mark against it.

Yard, no need to expand.

I hooked a crowner so we can get this one out of the way. We probably won't need to wait the full three days when running the crowner since this is a wick-starved trope.

Crown Description:

Past In The Rear View Mirror was made in 2010, it has only 21 wicks, and the majority of on-page examples are ZC Es. It has been suggested that while the idea of using a rear-view mirror as a metaphor for the past is valid, it could use a run through the TLP for more examples. Should the trope be cut and sent to the Trope Idea Salvage Yard?
